๐Ÿ’š As we get closer to wrapping up our 2025โ€“2026 school year, we're taking a moment to celebrate the incredible volunteers, guest speakers, and community members who helped make this year so meaningful.

From woodworking and honey infusing to fire safety, engineering, gardening, and sharing favorite stories, each person who spent time with our students brought new knowledge, skills, and inspiration into our learning community. These real-world experiences are such an important part of how we learn, helping students discover new interests while building meaningful connections with the people around them.

While we routinely welcome guest speakers throughout the school year, these photos represent only a small glimpse of the many individuals who shared their time and talents with our students. We know we couldn't include everyone, but we want every volunteer, guest speaker, and community partner to know just how much we appreciate you.

Thank you for investing in our students, sharing your passions, and helping make the 2025โ€“2026 school year one they'll remember. We are so thankful to be part of a community that believes learning extends far beyond the classroom. ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ’š

๐ŸŒฒ Forest school magic doesn't happen by accident!

Behind the scenes, you'll find our team brainstorming, collaborating, learning, and occasionally laughing until our sides hurt. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’š

These moments of teamwork help us create the meaningful, joyful experiences our students enjoy every day, and they reflect one of the core beliefs of our school: that strong relationships and a connected community are an essential part of how children learn and grow.

Jumping, climbing, balancing, and moving!

Gross motor activities are always a favorite around here. These big movements help build strength, coordination, confidence, and plenty of smiles along the way.

Next up in our meet the staff series: No nature school adventure would be complete without a loyal companion or two! Meet the pups who help make Wild Forest Academy feel a little more like home. ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŒฟ

Stella is our Director of Greetings & Tail Wagging ๐Ÿ•

She specializes in welcoming folks, spreading joy, and demonstrating expert-level doggy toy play and attention-seeking skills. As the younger member of our four-legged staff and the proud sidekick of Ms. Miranda, she brings endless enthusiasm to every school day.

Known for her contagious grin and happy-go-lucky attitude, Stella can often be found making new friends, carrying around her favorite toy, or gently convincing anyone nearby that she deserves just one more belly rub or ear scratch. Her favorite activities include greeting folks and reminding everyone that life is best enjoyed with a smile.

Meet Sawyer ๐Ÿพ

Sawyer is Wild Forest Academy's unofficial-official Site Supervisor. Whether a project is underway or a lesson is in progress, Sawyer can usually be found carefully observing operations from a comfortable spot nearby.

A true expert in relaxation, Sawyer has mastered the art of lounging and is known for conducting inspections from beneath picnic tables, beside the garden beds, or wherever the sun happens to be shining. He is also frequently spotted keeping a close eye on his trusted assistant, Mr. Doug, to ensure everything is running smoothly.

When not supervising, Sawyer enjoys soaking up belly rubs and demonstrating the importance of taking a good nap after a productive day. His calm presence, observant nature, and exceptional lounging abilities make him a valued member of the Wild Forest Academy team.

Sometimes the best learning happens in the middle of giggles, made-up stories, and a little silliness. ๐ŸŒฟโœจ

Pretend play helps children build creativity, problem-solving skills, communication, emotional understanding, and confidenceโ€”all while making joyful memories with friends. At Wild Forest Academy, we know imagination is just as important as academics.

One of our favorite Friday traditions is Reading Buddies! ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’š

Our elementary students are paired with one of our younger learners to share a story together. While it may look like "just" reading a book, so much more is happening.

Our younger students get to build early literacy skills, confidence, and a love of books while spending time with an older role model. Our elementary students practice reading fluency, patience, leadership, and communication as they encourage and support their little buddies.

One of the things we love most about a multi-age learning environment is that children naturally learn with and from one another. The younger students are inspired by their older friends, and the older students discover the joy and responsibility of being mentors. It's a beautiful reminder that everyone has something to teach and something to learn.

These sweet Friday moments are always a highlight of our week. โค๏ธ

๐ŸŒฟ Why Wild Forest Academy?

Weโ€™re excited to share an insightful article written earlier this year exploring the value of nature-based education and the many ways it can support childrenโ€™s growth and learning. In Why Wild Forest Academy?, nationally recognized research author Heather Kreidler shares a thoughtful case for nature-based education and the lasting impact it can have on childrenโ€™s learning and development.

Heather has contributed to numerous influential publications, including several pieces with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, and has collaborated on reports such as Parenting Matters: Supporting Parents of Children Ages 0โ€“8 (2016) and Integrating Social and Behavioral Sciences Within the Weather Enterprise (2018).

We hope youโ€™ll take a few moments to read this perspective on why learning in and with nature matters. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿƒ๐ŸŒณ
