Super Interesting!!

We are often asked where the oldest archaeological sites are in Florida. Well, this map showing the coastline changes over millennia shows us where the oldest ancestral Indigenous sites are located - miles out in the ocean and Gulf. If you are interested in underwater archaeology you can request that one of our experts gives a presentation on this fascinating topic at your next event!

T-1 day until the 2024 Lionfish Challenge kicks off!

Lionfish are an invasive reef fish species that wreak havoc on our local ecosystems. Each year, the Lionfish Challenge offers the opportunity to earn prizes while helping to reduce the negative impacts on our ecosystems by removing lionfish all across the state. This statewide lionfish tournament is open May 24 - Sept. 2, 2024. With tiered prizes like pole spears, regulators, and even a raffle for a four-night stay in Belize, the more you harvest, the more you win!

Always cool to see these!!

Did you know that freediving was at the Olympic Games in 1900 in Paris🇫🇷?

In 1900, the Paris Games included freediving, which was then known as “underwater swimming”. The competition gave the competitors one point for each second underwater and two points for each meter swum. Charles Devendeville (France), André Six (France) and Peder Lykkeberg (Denmark) took Gold🥇, Silver🥈, and Bronze🥉 respectively.

Today I want to relight the flame🔥 to see deep freediving become an Olympic discipline again.

I can't help but advocate for its rightful place in the Olympic Games once more. Freediving is not just a sport; it's a profound testament to human capability.

Here are a few reasons why I believe freediving should be reinstated as an Olympic discipline:

1. Mastery of Mind and Body: Freediving isn't just about holding one's breath and descending into the depths. It's a feat of mental fortitude and physical prowess to push the boundaries of what the human body can achieve underwater🧜

2. Cultural and Historical Significance: Freediving has a rich cultural heritage, deeply rooted in the traditions of coastal communities around the world. From the Ama divers of Japan to the Haenyeo of Korea, freediving has been practiced for centuries as a means of sustenance, exploration, and cultural expression. Its inclusion in the Olympics would honor this legacy and bring global attention to these time-honored traditions.

3. Environmental Advocacy🐋: As we face unprecedented environmental challenges, the oceans need champions now more than ever. Freedivers are uniquely positioned to raise awareness about marine conservation issues, using their intimate connection with the underwater world to inspire action and promote sustainability.

4. Spectacular Visual Appeal🤩: Let's face it – freediving is breathtaking to watch. The graceful movements of athletes gliding through the water, the serene beauty of the underwater landscape, and the suspense of breath-hold dives captivate audiences in a way few sports can. Its inclusion in the Olympics would undoubtedly add a visually stunning dimension to the Games.

5. Universal Accessibility🥽: Unlike some Olympic sports that require expensive equipment or specialized facilities, freediving is accessible to people from all walks of life. All you need is a body of water and a sense of adventure. By showcasing freediving on the world stage, the Olympics would inspire countless individuals to discover the joy and benefits of exploring the underwater realm.

In conclusion, the reinstatement of freediving in the Olympics isn't just about adding another event to the roster – it's about celebrating the human spirit, fostering cultural exchange, and advocating for the preservation of our planet's most precious resource: the ocean. Let's come together to support this incredible sport and make waves for a brighter, more sustainable future.🌍
