In October 2026, we celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), an annual recognition of the positive impact of people with disabilities in the American workforce. This yearly event began in 1945 as a weeklong national observance of the contributions of people with physical disabilities. In 1988, Congress designated the commemoration as NDEAM, which then evolved to acknowledge the importance of increasing employment opportunities for people with disabilities, including those with mental health conditions and other nonobvious disabilities.

Register for the 2026 NDEAM virtual event and celebrate the achievements of disabled workers in America and the 25th anniversary of the Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP).

Did you know that October is International AAC Awareness Month? We celebrate the possibilities this device opens up for so many of our friends, family members and clients.

There are all kinds of AAC Devices including, no-tech options with gestures, facial expressions, body language, and sign language and low-tech options with picture boards, communication books, and printed symbol cards.

The goals of AAC Awareness Month are to -
• Acknowledge multifaceted communication: Highlight that expression goes far beyond oral speech.
• Dispel myths: Correct misconceptions that can delay access to vital communication tools.
• Promote inclusion: Encourage schools, workplaces, and public spaces to adopt inclusive communication practices.
• Support users and partners: Empower AAC users and train communication partners on effective modeling and listening strategies.
