In December of 2024, Merchants & Farmers Bank partnered with Vernon Parish Head Start (Birth to 5) to give children the best start in life with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, inspired by Dolly Parton’s own dad, who couldn’t read or write.

While our hearts are incredibly sad today, we’re more inspired than ever to ensure that her legacy of love continues to find its way into the hands and hearts of children for generations to come. Together, we are building a brighter future for all the children in Vernon Parish.

For your convenience,applications are available outside the door of the office so one may be picked up outside of regular office hours.

“Teaching Children and Serving Families” in every community of Vernon Parish!

We had a great first day for 1/3 of our children on Friday. 😊 We look forward to seeing another group of children tomorrow.

Some families are still attending the annual mandatory parent orientation. Remember, a child cannot attend until the annual orientation is complete.

We enroll children (8 weeks old, Birth to Five) year round. Please complete an application if you’re interested in your child being enrolled. We cannot get a child’s application evaluated using the selection criteria sheet without the application. Don’t wait to turn it in to our office if you have not already. 😊😃

📚🎒 34 Days Until the First Day of School! 🎒📚

Only 34 days until the first day of school! We can’t wait to welcome our students back on Monday, August 10, for another great year in Vernon Parish.

Before summer comes to an end, there’s still time to make a few more family memories close to home:

🌲 Explore the scenic trails of Kisatchie National Forest.
🛝 Spend the afternoon at one of Vernon Parish’s parks or playgrounds.
🎣 Go fishing at a local lake or pond.
🚴 Take a family bike ride or evening walk around Fort Polk.
🏛️ Visit the Fort Polk Museum and learn about the history of our military community.
📚 Stop by the Vernon Parish Library and let your children pick out a few books before school starts.
🍦 Enjoy an ice cream treat or dinner at one of Vernon Parish’s locally owned restaurants.

These last few weeks of summer are a great opportunity to unplug, spend time together, and get ready for an exciting new school year.
