What better way to celebrate National Dog Day then with cleared out kennels! We had 104 animals adopted during Clear the Shelters this past week including some of our longer-stay pets like Honey and Apollo! 🐶🐱🐰🐹

When a Loudoun County family walked into their dining room, they were surprised to find an unexpected guest lounging in one of their chairs—a timber rattlesnake! This uninvited visitor had made himself right at home. They called for assistance and Humane Law Enforcement Officer Hernandez arrived on the scene. She kindly persuaded the slithery intruder that the great outdoors was a much better hangout spot and was able to safely place this venomous snake back outside.

Most snakes in Loudoun County are harmless and can be found all throughout the county. Our officers do not respond to healthy snakes found outside of your home, they are where they belong! Our officers will respond to snakes in your living space or injured snakes inside or outside the home.

Did you know only two types of venomous snakes can be found in the county - the timber rattlesnake and the northern copperhead. The harmless juvenile rat snake is most often mistaken for a copperhead. Sometimes rat snakes will even rattle their tails at you in an attempt to scare you away! Like with all wildlife, giving our snakes space and leaving them alone will keep both you and them safe.

Clear the Shelters is off to a busy start with 52 adoptions during the first weekend! We are so excited seeing all these animals head off to their new homes. Thank you for adopting!

Bloo went on a field trip with one of our volunteers! They say:
“He was great getting in and out of the car! He got lots of attention while we walked around Home Depot, and was very friendly with everyone who wanted to say hello. We ended the morning with a trip to the pet store where he picked out a new toy and got a treat! He was a really good boy!”

LCAS Alumnus Hercules stopped by with his hoomans to say hello! After greeting his favorite staff members and showing off his belly for belly rubs, Hercules sponsored Honey's adoption fee to help her find a home!
