Welcome to Mr. Jackson’s classroom, “Where the Past Comes Alive”. I’m looking forward to an exciting and adventurous school year where we will explore eve

6th Grade History/ Government / Civics Teacher
Social Studies Department Chair

I’m looking forward to an exciting and adventurous school year where we will explore everything from the earth’s surface to George Washington’s first command as a general. To bring History Alive, we will collaborate through project-based and center-based learning activities. I thoroughly believe in the entire community approach to education and invite you (parents) to join us as we journey through America's early years. By donating your time, items needed for projects, or just a simple word of encouragement, you can help facilitate your involvement in our journey. If you should have any questions or concerns, please contact me at [email protected] or 571-252-2848. In addition, please feel free to join one of my various social media outlets below. I will periodically update my webpage and social media forums with important information, so please check regularly throughout the school year. Thank You,
Mr. Jackson

No need to call the police, it's just Mr. Jackson's class studying about the Boston Massacre. Students were tasked with investigating the crime scene of the massacre as well as litigating the case in court. Students had a great time!

Hey Simpson Community,
I want to connect with you about what was happening in the classroom. We just wrapped up a 4 week study on Exploration. To help facilitate our journey through exploration, students were tasked with completing their first written research paper, designing and building a life size poster of their chosen explorer. I’ll admit their first written research paper was a great challenge(something I expected) however, they found great joy in building and making their explorers. Please enjoy pictures of some completed projects.

They also received a visit from one of my many historical cousins Captain Jack-Jack! We were able to end our Exploration unit with a big bang!

Hey Simpson Community! Here are pictures of our recent study on Native Americans. To help further our understanding of the unique foods that Native Americans have enjoyed for years, students participated in the enjoying Native American bread and cactus juice. **strict Covid protocols were adhered to when preparing and serving the he food**

Hey Simspon Community! It’s been a minute since I communicated to you about the happenings of our classroom. First, words cannot express how excited I am that students are back in class full time. We’ve been able to do normal classroom things such as class projects and engaging activities. Grant it, we have to follow COVID-19 safety protocols, but we’re having a great time nonetheless. Second, our little 6th graders have finally settled into middle school routines and are now true MIDDLE SCHOOLERS! There is no turning back now. I will be posting pictures of all of our activities and projects soon and more frequently. We recently began our study on Paleo Native Americans. To help students understand Prehistoric Natives, we did an archaeological dig. Below are some pictures of this lesson.

Hey Simpson Family,

The week of 8/10 - 8/13 we held our annual Stampede into Simpson (6th grade orientation) and it was one of the most fulfilling experiences since I’ve been teaching. Excitement and energy filled the atmosphere, it is clear that the students are ready to return back to some sense of normalcy. I understand that there are some concerns and passionate discussions about whether or not students should return to in-person learning. (as it should be) Yet to see the excitement and zeal on the student’s faces for the idea of returning to socializing, laughing, in-person learning, and a general school environment was surreal for me. It will be some time before our schools and students return back to complete normalcy. However, this Thursday will be the start of a new journey that will hopefully begin to bring an end to the dark challenges that distant learning created. See you all on Thursday!

No Child Left Behind. The Simpson family hosted our 3rd Annual School Supplies Drive Give-Away. This year was special because we partnered with Evergreen Elementary School and Loudoun County High School to meet the needs of our community that needed it the most. Additionally, we partnered with the Loudoun County Health Department to administer COVID-19 vaccination shots. We at Simpson want to send a BIG THANK YOU to the Virginia Beach Medical Reserve Corps volunteers who came out in large numbers to help administer the vaccines. Thank you to Vista Properties (Fields Apartments) for allowing us once again to host this annual event. Lastly, we want to thank the Leesburg community for your donations of school supplies and general support. You’ve again proven why I’m proud to tell the world I’m a teacher in Leesburg, Virginia!

Hey everyone!!...I'm back! 😁 I've been MIA due to teaching 100% online. Now that we're back in school, I hope to post more often. After 2 weeks of being with hybrid students, being able to see the students laugh, socialize, and just be kids has been awesome! I must admit, it's taking me some time to adjust to our new learning environment. I miss the old way of teaching where I had more direct contact with the students. However, overall, the students and I are making the best out of this challenging situation. Thank you all for your continued support, please continue to send positive thoughts and good vibes.

One bright spot that has come out of online teaching, is it has forced all of us to become much more creative in our approach to bring HISTORY ALIVE! Today's filming of our history lessons, affirmed our commitment to make the learning of history as engaging as possible! I had a great time working with the 6th grade history team! They are working hard behind the scenes to highlight the contributions of Native Americans to US history and to tell the story of European explorers! A special thank you to Ms.Kimberly Poole and Ms. Bernadette Manning for allowing us to use their homes for the location of filming. 📽🎞🎥🎬
