I’ve had a few things lately where I’ve caught myself thinking, *I’ve already tried this. I already know how this is probably going to turn out.*

And maybe that’s why Simon got me this morning.

After fishing all night with nothing to show for it, he tells Jesus, **“But at your word I will let down the nets.” — Luke 5:5**

That little *but* stayed with me.

Simon had experience telling him one thing and Jesus telling him another. And somehow, he trusted Jesus enough to try again.

I need that today.

**Sometimes following Jesus begins with trusting His word when my experience tells me otherwise.**

Where might Jesus be asking us to trust Him enough to put the nets back in the water?

Feeding the Valley Food Bank is looking for a part-time CDL driver, preferably Class A, to join our team at our Albany, Georgia warehouse.

Schedule
Monday–Thursday, half-days
Two Saturdays per month - Mobile Pantry Deliveries, approximately 3 hours each day

Pay
$18–$20/hour, based on experience and CDL class.

I’ve been thinking about how easy it is for me to get comfortable when something is working. When life feels settled, part of me just wants to say, "Lord, can we stay right here for a while?”

That’s what caught me in Luke 4. The people wanted Jesus to stay too.

But Jesus said, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also.” — Luke 4:43

Jesus cared about them, but He was still moving.

And maybe that’s my invitation today: not trying to keep Jesus where I’m comfortable, but being willing to follow where He leads.

Jesus, where are You going—and am I willing to follow?

I’ve been thinking about how easy it is for me to let the loudest voice in the room become the most important one.

Sometimes that’s worry. Sometimes it’s what somebody else thinks. Sometimes it’s just my own thoughts running a little too long.

Then I sat with Luke 4 this morning and watched Jesus speak—and things moved. The people asked, “What is this word?” because even the darkness had to respond to His authority. — Luke 4:36

That reminded me: Jesus has the final word over what tries to rule me.

So today I’m listening a little closer.

Sometimes the hardest Jesus to receive is the Jesus we think we already know.

The folks in Nazareth knew His family. They knew His hometown. They thought they knew Jesus. Then He stood among them and said, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” — Luke 4:21 (ESV)

That caught me this morning.

I can get familiar with Jesus too—familiar enough that I expect Him to fit inside what I already believe, want, or understand.

But following Jesus means leaving room for Him to surprise me, stretch me, and reshape my expectations.

Sometimes I want Jesus with me, but I still want to choose the road.

That’s what caught me in Peter’s story today. He knew who Jesus was, but when Jesus described a way he wouldn’t have chosen, Peter pushed back.

Jesus simply brings us back to the invitation: “Take up your cross and follow me.” — Matthew 16:24

Following Jesus isn’t having the whole road figured out. It’s trusting Him enough to let Him lead the next step—even when His way costs me something.

Something fresh is growing at Fifth Avenue, and we want the community to be part of it.

Join **Flint River Fresh** for the **Fifth Avenue Community Garden Refresh Day!**

Some days I spend more energy trying to figure out what’s coming than simply staying close to Jesus today.

In Matthew 25, Jesus says, “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.” That hits me because readiness isn’t about having tomorrow figured out. It’s about tending the oil in my lamp today.

Prayer. Scripture. Surrender. Trust.

Ordinary oil, drop by drop.

I don’t have to know when. I just want to be found near Jesus when He comes.

So I’m carrying this question today: Am I trying to predict what’s next, or am I staying close to Jesus right now?

Most days, faithfulness doesn’t look all that impressive.

It looks like watering what’s already been planted. Making the call. Keeping the promise. Sitting with somebody. Showing up again when nobody is clapping.

Jesus says, “Keep awake.” Maybe staying awake isn’t about watching the sky. Maybe it’s being present enough to notice what Jesus has already placed in my hands—and trusting Him with what happens next.

Faithfulness is how I stay awake.

So today I’m carrying one question: What has Jesus actually entrusted to me today that simply needs my faithful attention?

“God is faithful.” — 1 Corinthians 1:9

Some mornings I can get moving before I ever check in with what’s happening inside of me.

Work gets done. Folks get helped. I show up. From the outside, everything can look faithful.

But Jesus keeps pulling me deeper: “First clean the inside…” (Matthew 23:26).

That has me wondering if I’ve been spending more energy looking faithful than letting Jesus actually form faithfulness in me.

So today, I’m trying something simple—open hands, a quiet minute, and one honest prayer:

Jesus, what’s happening inside of me right now?

Maybe I don’t need to fix the answer. Maybe I just need to give Him access.
