I remember this incident so clearly. That day, I, unfortunately, was still on light duty after an elbow surgery. I was in the station, listening on county radio and watching on the TV, as my friends and coworkers responded to the unimaginable. I felt so helpless not being able to participate. My thoughts go to all those who were there and have lived out this tragedy for the past 20 years.

Reach out if you are looking for support. Task Force 10-87 can help guide you and set you up with the resources you need, including peer support. Nobody quite gets it like another first responder, right? We are all here for you.

First responders are there for everyone. Who is there for them?

Research has found that law enforcement officers and firefighters are more likely to die by su***de than in the line of duty. EMS providers also face elevated su***de risk. These are not just statistics, they represent lives, families, and communities forever changed.

While speaking openly about his own mental health struggles and encouraging other first responders to stop hiding their medication, therapy, or other forms of treatment he outwardly encouraged first responders to refuse to allow it to be taboo.

Stigma towards mental health care for first responders is often cited as one of the main reasons for refusal to seek care when needed.

At Task Force 10-87 and Empower The Mind, we offer free sessions for first responders to help break that barrier.
