💰FALL BREAK FUN WITHOUT BREAKING THE BANK! 🍂

I know so many families looking for ways to save money! We’ve been finding ways to have fun, make memories, and explore new places without spending a fortune.

Here are a few things we did (and some money-saving tips we learned along the way)! ❤️

🎢 1. Kentucky Kingdom
🎟️ Tickets were just $19.99 per person!
⚠️ You MUST purchase tickets online before arriving to get this price.
🚗 Parking is an additional $15.

🦘 2. Kentucky Down Under
🎟️ We found a great deal through Groupon!
💰 Use promo code FALL for an additional discount.
💡 Check Groupon before purchasing tickets directly!
🛘There’s even a cave tour included in admission—so if you have Littles, you can skip Mammoth Cave.
⛳️rent the $38 golf cart if you’re staying all day—there were others walking the 400 acres so you can skip this expense 🫣

🏛️ 3. Tennessee State Museum
🎟️ 100% FREE admission for all ages!
🚗 Parking is also FREE!
⚠️ Be prepared to hunt for a parking spot! The museum shares a parking lot with the Nashville Farmers’ Market, so spaces can be limited.

📚 4. FREE Museum Passports Through Your Public Library! This might be my FAVORITE money-saving tip! ❤️ Did you know you can check out FREE museum passports through participating public libraries?

💡 A few things to know before you go:
✔️ Read the details on each passport to see how many people are admitted with one pass.
✔️ Be prepared to pay for parking, although several locations offer parking validation or reduced rates.
✔️ Check with your local library about passport availability and checkout requirements.

At Learning with Floyd, we don’t guess about growth—we measure it, graph it, celebrate it, and use it to decide what comes next. 📚📊

There is something incredibly powerful about a student being able to SEE their own growth.

This fluency graph isn’t just a collection of numbers—it represents weeks of practicing, rereading, learning new patterns, building automaticity, and refusing to give up.

We started around 36 words per minute with a below grade level instructional passage. Look at those later scores… 70s… 81 WPM with a grade level passage 🤯👏

And my favorite part? The goal lines keep moving UP. Because once we reach one goal, we don’t stop—we set the next one.

When kids track their own progress, the conversation changes from:

❌ “Am I good at reading?”

to

🧠 “What did I do that helped me grow?”
📈 “How close am I to my next goal?”
💪 “What do I need to work on next?”

That is metacognition. That is ownership. And THAT is how we build confident readers. ❤️

Not only did these kids make their own balloons 🎈, but they also had to use some SERIOUS critical thinking skills to figure out what TWO ingredients were hiding inside the mystery mixture! 🧠🔍🧪

Kudos to one of my all-star girls who took one smell and immediately said, “For sure nail polish remover!” 💅🏻😝 She was RIGHT!

Making observations + connecting to prior knowledge + testing your theory = critical thinking in action! 🧠👏🏻
