It's time for another installment for our Heart of Head Start, where we introduce you to the wonderful, dedicated team behind Central Kentucky Head Start.

Today, we are thrilled to spotlight our Assistant Director, Ann Pickerrell.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?
"The most rewarding part of my job is seeing the positive impact our program has on children, families, and staff. I enjoy supporting staff as they grow in their roles, helping problem-solve challenges, and seeing the strategies and supports we put in place make a real difference in the classroom. Ultimately, knowing that our work helps create safe, nurturing environments where children and families can be successful is what makes the work meaningful to me."

What do you wish more people knew about Head Start?
"I wish everyone knew that Head Start is so much more than a preschool program. We support the whole child and the whole family, from education, health, nutrition, and social-emotional development to family goals and community connections. We are helping children build a strong foundation for school while also partnering with families to create opportunities for long-term success."

Through our partnership with Feeding America, Kentucky's Heartland adopt a backpack distribution program, CKCAC works to combat local food insecurity. Last year, 38,688 snack backpacks were distributed to children across our service area to ensure they have access to nourishment when school is out for the day and meals at home are hard to come by.

This program is vital to ensuring our community's youth stay healthy, energized, and ready to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

CKCAC serves Breckinridge, Grayson, Hardin, LaRue, Marion, Meade, Nelson, and Washington Counties.

Please help us by writing your check out to Central KY Community Action Council, Inc., PO Box 830, Lebanon, KY 40033 and add one of our counties you wish to support in the check memo. Thank you for your donation to help that no child goes hungry.
