This is a big deal. On Wednesday, September 2, I have the incredible privilege of welcoming author and journalist Nico Lang for a conversation about their groundbreaking book, “American Teenager: How Trans Kids Are Surviving Hate and Finding Joy in a Turbulent Era.”

And moderating the conversation? Jim Obergefell—the civil rights activist whose name is on the landmark Supreme Court case that brought marriage equality to all 50 states.

There’s something especially meaningful about bringing this conversation to Lebanon. Nico grew up just down the road in Milford, Jim calls the Cincinnati area home, and now they’ll be together in Lebanon for an evening centered on the real lives, experiences, challenges, and joy of transgender young people.

Nico has also been on what is literally the longest book tour in history, traveling across the country to bring these stories into communities large and small. I am incredibly excited that Lebanon gets to be one of them.

This is the kind of conversation I believe deeply in creating: one that moves beyond headlines and political talking points and gives us the opportunity to listen, learn, ask better questions, and see one another more fully.

Tomorrow night, I’m going to stand before my local City Council and speak in support of our local Pride Festival and in opposition to comments made by an elected official about the festival and the LGBTQ+ people who attend it.

If you’re just discovering this page, that probably tells you something important about me and my work.

I’m an educator, speaker, consultant, parent coach, and founder of Q***r Allyship. Much of my work is grounded in a simple belief: the way we treat people matters.

How we lead matters. How we disagree matters. And when we have influence or authority, our words matter even more.

The recent comments made by our elected official didn’t remain in one social media post. They fueled more hostility online. LGBTQ+ people heard it. Parents heard it. And children—queer and not queer—watched adults model how we treat people who are different from us.

I teach that allyship isn’t something we call ourselves. It’s something we practice.

Sometimes that means speaking when it would be easier to stay quiet.

So tomorrow, I’m going to use my three minutes.

Because disagreement does not require disrespect. Because elected officials represent all of us. And because the loudest voice should never be mistaken for the only voice.

Pride Month may be over, but allyship isn't.
As I was finishing my latest blog post, the Supreme Court upheld state laws banning transgender girls and women from participating in girls' and women's school sports.
What concerns me most isn't just the decision—it's what often follows. Court decisions shape policy, but they also shape conversations. They influence how people treat one another.
𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀.
The question isn't whether you celebrated Pride in June. It's how you'll help someone feel seen, valued, and connected today.
