More than 150 new Western University of Health Sciences students have arrived in Lebanon in recent weeks, preparing to begin their education as future osteopathic physicians and physical therapists. Many are relocating from around the state and across the country, making the move to a new place as they start the next chapter of their academic journey. Across Lebanon, residents, organizations, and local businesses are stepping up to help welcome the newest members of the community.

At Western University of Health Sciences’ College of Health Sciences-Northwest (CHS-Northwest), students are prepared to become compassionate, patient-centered clinicians. On Friday, Aug. 7, 2026, 46 incoming Doctor of Physical Therapy students pledged to uphold those values as they donned their white coats for the first time. 🥼🎉

The white coat ceremony is an important rite of passage for those entering the health care profession. For future physical therapists, it marks the beginning of a journey dedicated to helping patients restore movement, improve function, and enhance their quality of life. The white coat symbolizes professionalism, compassion, and a commitment to evidence-based, patient-centered care. As students put on their coats, they embrace the responsibility of building trusting relationships with patients and supporting them through recovery, rehabilitation, and lifelong wellness.

Yesterday, nearly 150 of our incoming PT and DO students explored downtown Lebanon during our Taste of Lebanon Scavenger Hunt! Students spent the afternoon discovering local businesses, connecting with classmates, and getting to know the town they'll be calling home for the next few years.

A heartfelt thank you to all of the local businesses who welcomed our students with generosity, whether through treats, coupons, or a friendly hello. Your support helps create a warm first impression and reminds our students what makes this community so special. 💙

A new chapter began for 108 aspiring osteopathic physicians as Western University of Health Sciences Heatherington College of Osteopathic Medicine (WesternU HCOM) welcomed its newest class of medical students!

WesternU HCOM’s Welcome Week featured multiple opportunities for students to get to know each other, their faculty and staff, and the Lebanon community. Welcome Week culminated today with WesternU HCOM’s white coat ceremony, an annual event and a rite of passage that welcomes students into the health professions. 🥼🩺

Several Western University of Health Sciences Heatherington College of Osteopathic Medicine (WesternU HCOM) students spent the weekend providing medical support at the Linn County Fair. WesternU’s participation in the fair was done in partnership with the Linn County Sheriff’s Office and the Sheriff Office’s Search and Rescue Team.

Throughout the fair, students provided basic medical care while also working alongside youth Search and Rescue volunteers and Linn County deputies to educate fairgoers on different community resources and safety initiatives.

Western University of Health Sciences has selected Michael Marinello, DNP, MSN, RN, as the founding Site Dean for the College of Graduate Nursing-Northwest (CGN-Northwest), effective Aug. 3, 2026.

“The appointment of Dr. Marinello as Site Dean marks an important milestone in the continued growth of the College of Graduate Nursing. His vision, experience, and unwavering commitment to excellence positions CGN-Northwest for continued success as we expand educational opportunities, strengthen partnerships with health care organizations, and prepare the next generation of nurse leaders to meet the evolving needs of Oregon and the Pacific Northwest,” said CGN and CGN-Northwest Dean Mary Lopez, PhD, RN.
