“Miss Jennie - why do you have a sheriff parking spot in your driveway?”

Well let me tell you…

First, that parking spot is too close to the road for my heart to say it’s safe for parents to load and unload kiddos… blocking that spot just makes sense!

Second, the speed limit on depot road is 25mph… NO one does 25mph… ever. If I welcome the sheriff to park there then anyone who drives that road will think “better slow down, sometimes they park at that daycare”

My program is immensely safer by just that little sign welcoming them into our programs driveway, kids seeing a friendly side of an officer wave as they walk to their car, and builds a little stronger piece of community we always dream of here at blueprints…

So slow down by the daycare - because Miss Jennie puts safety first always!

This one comes from the deepest part of Blueprints and truly from the heart of Miss Jennie.

For the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of watching this little dream continue to grow, flourish, and expand into something I never imagined. Together we’ve built an incredible team, and I will forever say that they are what make Blueprints what it is.

During that time, running two programs, I stepped into the role of director more than ever before. I floated wherever I was needed, filled classrooms that needed consistency, and had the opportunity to experience every age and stage from the inside out. It has made me a better leader because I’ve seen firsthand what our teachers and children need every single day.

I tried to become the “director” everyone told me I needed to be with the size we were, the one who sat behind a desk until someone needed support.

The funny thing is… there was always someone who needed support.

An extra set of hands.
A teacher who needed a break.
A child who needed connection.
A classroom that needed another adult.

So I’d leave the emails, the billing, and the paperwork behind and find myself exactly where I was happiest… in a classroom.

Somewhere along the way, I realized I was missing the part of this job that has always lit me up.

The part that sends Tony and our family searching for the next exciting piece of curriculum. The part that has me collecting random supplies because they’ll make the perfect sensory bin. The part where I get to watch a child suddenly understand something they’ve been working so hard to learn.

Some of the greatest moments of my career weren’t behind a desk. They happened upstairs in my home daycare, in the “garage,” and later inside the walls of Blueprints.

But the reason Blueprints ever existed wasn’t because I dreamed of owning a childcare center……It existed because I dreamed of being a teacher.

This summer, I’ve been quietly working to make that dream part of my life again.

That means you’ll notice a few changes around thee office. The face behind my desk will look a little different as my mom steps in to help with the pieces that never really belonged to me anyway…. licensing, billing, payroll, filing, and all the behind-the-scenes details she happens to be incredibly good at. As a bonus, her “semi-retirement” now comes with front-row seats to watching her grandchildren wander through the halls.

As I watch centers around us lose steam, downsize, and in some cases close their doors, I find myself incredibly grateful that I still get to do what I love every single day.

Blueprints has my whole heart.

But if I’m going to continue leading this program the way our families deserve, I need to protect the part of me that made me start it in the first place.

So this year you’ll find me exactly where I belong.

Back with four-year-olds.

Back to read-alouds that spark huge conversations.
Back to literacy, pre-reading skills, sensory play, process art, messy science, keepsakes, and magical moments.

Back to laughter.

Back to play.

Back to watching those incredible little “I GOT IT!” moments happen right in front of me.

Watch out, fours… here I come. 💙

The waiting list may continue to grow. My voicemaill may still take me longer than I’d like to return. But for the last 12 years, families have continued to tell me that Blueprints was worth the wait.

I hope this next chapter proves them right.

And if your little one is four and you’re looking for a year filled with wonder, laughter, learning, and a whole lot of magic…

I just might be able to squeeze one more friend in at circle time.

💙

Update! Only -2 pre-K spots available for fall 2026

To the parents of three-year-olds,

The ones who blinked, and suddenly that itty-bitty baby is starting to look more like a big kid every day.

The parents who struggle to make plans because leaving your little one feels harder than whatever fun is waiting on the other side.

The parents who can’t believe you’re already having conversations about preschool.

Blueprints was built for you.

I have spent more than half of my life building this program into what it is today, and this three-year-old classroom holds such a special place in my heart.

Miss Kara is truly a once-in-a-lifetime educator. She’s patient and kind while holding high expectations, all while bringing silliness, joy, and wonder into every part of the day.

Working alongside her is Miss Ashley, who can always be found making each day a little more magical, snuggled up with a few friends and a good book or chasing giggling children around the playground to capture those extra-special moments for Mom and Dad.

And then there’s Chelsea. She’s been part of Blueprints for eight years and has kept us laughing, smiling, and on our toes ever since.

This trio is the team I would dream of for my own child.

Which is fitting… because this year, my child will be in their classroom too.

Our preschool offers play-based learning that meets each child exactly where they are. We create meaningful opportunities for growth through hands-on experiences, imaginative play, and engaging curriculum while helping children build confidence, navigate tricky moments with the support of caring teachers, and create friendships that often last far beyond preschool. A perfect little one room preschool - full of opportunities to grow and learn.

If you’ve been on the fence about preschool, I’d love to talk with you. Our flexible scheduling allows us to work with families to find an option that fits your needs.

Reach out through email to Join us for our Open House on Monday, August 3, for enrollments beginning August 31.

I’d love to show you the place that has meant so much to so many families… including my own.

Love,

A mom who built a school for others because leaving her own was too hard. ❤️

Our School-Age adventurers at our Merchants Row center stepped into the forest during our Camping Under the Stars Week with a creative art project, led by Miss Ashley!

Using construction paper, torn paper, googly eyes, and plenty of imagination, our artists created Hidden Forest Animal scenes.

Can you find the hidden forest animals? 👀🐻🦉🦌

🪣Creativity was in full swing as our little artists discovered a new way to paint!

Using sand toys instead of traditional paintbrushes, our friends decorated paper buckets with bright colors and lots of imagination. Scoops, sifters, rakes, and other sand tools created unique patterns and textures, making each bucket one of a kind.
