Lebanon County Head Start Lebanon County Head Start is preschool program for three and four-year-old children and their families. The program is free to eligible families.

Lebanon County Head Start is a comprehensive preschool program for three and four-year-old children and their families. It is designed to strengthen and encourage early literacy, social develop

ment, resourcefulness, and self-sufficiency by providing positive learning experiences. In Lebanon County, IU 13 partners with its six school districts to provide young children with the early literacy skills they need to succeed. Early Head Start is a federally funded community-based program for low-income pregnant women and families with infants and toddlers. Its mission is to enhance the development of very young children, and to promote healthy family functioning. Home visits provide parents with information on child development, nutrition, health and community services, and a parent/child activity is included. For more information call 450-1512.

There is a lot going on at the federal level right now that relates to the future of Head Start. We want to assure you we are paying attention to the proposed changes, but more importantly, we are preparing to begin the school year! We look forward to welcoming children into our classrooms over the next couple of weeks!

Our classroom based staff was involved in professional development this week. As you can see, they were busy using hands-on activities to connect to the curriculum.

In recognition of National Breastfeeding Month we had conversations with some of our Early Head Start families. We chatted with Esraa about her experiences.

What has been the most rewarding part of your breastfeeding journey?
Knowing what I put in my body is feeding my child and helping nourish her.

What challenges have you faced?
The first month was super painful and a mental hurdle.

What advice would you give to a new mom who is considering breastfeeding?
To be patient and see how fulfilling it could be.

What are you most proud of in your breastfeeding journey?
That I stuck it out through the first month and being able to bond.
