I am excited to share that Lebanon Public Schools was recently featured by Savvas Learning Company in a national School Success Story, “Lebanon Public Schools: A New Chapter in Reading Success.”

The feature highlights the thoughtful, collaborative work of our educators to strengthen literacy instruction through the implementation of myView Literacy and a Science of Reading-aligned approach. It recognizes the leadership of our instructional team, the important role of teacher voice in selecting and implementing the program, our commitment to ongoing professional learning, and—most importantly—the growth we are seeing in our students.

In just the first year, Savvas highlights significant gains in foundational reading skills, including kindergarten students increasing from just 2% demonstrating sound-blending skills at the beginning of the year to 70% by year’s end, along with some of our strongest preliminary third-grade state assessment results in years. This recognition is a wonderful reflection of what can happen when our educators work together around a shared commitment to improving outcomes for every learner.

Small School. Big Opportunities. Bright Futures.

Last night was a special evening for Lebanon Public Schools as we officially celebrated the Lyman Memorial High School Welding Pathway with our Ribbon Cutting Ceremony!

At the center of the celebration were our students. Our current welding pathway students and student ambassadors did an outstanding job welcoming guests, leading tours, and sharing the opportunities now available to students right here at Lyman.
We were honored to celebrate alongside students, families, community members, our Board of Education, and industry and educational partners from General Dynamics Electric Boat, Collins & Jewell, the Eastern Connecticut Workforce Investment Board, and UConn Navy STEM Coalition .

We were also grateful to be joined by Lebanon First Selectwoman Kathleen Smith, State Representatives Mark DeCaprio and Tim Ackert, State Senator Cathy Osten, and Congressman Joe Courtney. Their presence, along with that of our many community and industry partners, reflects the collaboration that makes opportunities like this possible for our students.

One of the special moments of the evening was receiving an Official Citation from the Connecticut General Assembly recognizing Lebanon Public Schools for our commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for students to pursue high-demand careers in manufacturing and the defense trades. Pictured here, some of the students who will benefit from those opportunities proudly hold that recognition.

This pathway is about much more than welding. It is about connecting learning to opportunity, providing students with authentic career pathways, and ensuring that when they leave Lebanon Public Schools, they are prepared to take their next step with confidence and purpose.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped turn this vision into a reality and especially proud of the students who will carry it forward.

🍎 Did you know breakfast is FREE for ALL Lebanon Public Schools students? 🥛🥯

A great school day starts with being fueled and ready to learn! We want to make sure all of our LPS families know that every student can enjoy school breakfast at no cost, every school day.

Currently, about 20% of our students participate in school breakfast, and we’d love to see even more students take advantage of this opportunity!

⚡ A few things to know:

🍳 Breakfast is FREE for every student
🥣 Students can enjoy a variety of breakfast options
⏰ Students arriving late can still receive breakfast until 9:00 a.m., if needed
🍌 Even if your child brings something from home, they are still welcome to receive a school breakfast at no cost

Help us spread the word and encourage your child to give school breakfast a try!

Finding the Magic in the Mess!

What a way to kick off the 2026–2027 school year!

A huge thank you to Phil the Magic Man for joining us at our Lebanon Public Schools Convocation and bringing our theme, “Magic in the Mess,” to life. Through humor, mentalism, audience participation, and plenty of surprises, Phil reminded us that things don’t always have to go exactly as planned for something pretty amazing to happen.

That feels like a perfect message as we begin a new school year. In education, the “mess” is often where the learning, growth, connection—and yes, the magic—happens.
