LHS Research Lab ➡ Coral Queen

We are so proud of our former student, and a Stockholm Junior Water Prize National Finalist, Maya Elliott ('23). Maya recently shared her experience traveling to Roatán, Honduras, to assist with vital coral reef restoration and outplanting:

"This past August I got to travel to Roatán, Honduras, to help with coral reef restoration and outplanting. Coral reefs are a huge part of life in Roatán, supporting marine biodiversity, tourism, and the livelihoods of many local communities. Getting to work on restoring these reefs that they hold so dear and seeing firsthand how important they are to both the environment and the people who depend on them means so much to me. Our group fully develops new methods every year we go down there and the northern reef in Roatán thrives due to our success. When you see your work touch others in ways you never expected, it carries so much value. LHS Research helped prepare me for these opportunities, and I'm so excited to see where I go next."

We love seeing our alumni making such a significant impact on our planet!

🔬 Science Coach Spotlight: Mentoring the Next Generation of Researchers 🎉

At Lebanon High School, Research Educator and Science Coach Head Coach Ryne Emerick is helping students turn curiosity into real scientific research, and this summer, that work paid off in a big way!

Under Mr. Emerick's coaching, Science Coach student Brylee Rhoads was selected for the SPARC Program at Missouri S&T. 🧪

With the foundation built through Science Coach, Brylee stepped into an intensive research experience alongside Missouri S&T faculty and graduate student mentors. She took a student-led role in the research process from start to finish, putting the skills she's developed with Mr. Emerick into practice at the university level.

In July, Brylee developed and presented a professional research poster at the STEM Conference, sharing her work with the broader STEM community. 📊👏

SPARC gives high-achieving students access to rigorous research, mentorship from university researchers, room and board, and a $1,500 stipend, and it's exactly the kind of opportunity Mr. Emerick works to open up for his students.

Thank you, Ryne, for your dedication to building young scientists, and congratulations, Brylee, on an outstanding summer! We can't wait to see what's next. 🚀

Congratulations to Brylee Rhoads on being selected for the SPARC Program!

Through this prestigious opportunity, Brylee will participate in an intensive research experience alongside Missouri S&T faculty and graduate student mentors, completing every stage of the research process from start to finish. The program emphasizes a student-led approach, allowing participants to take ownership of their learning, research placements, and scientific growth.

As part of the experience, Brylee will also develop and present a professional research poster at the STEM Conference in July.

The SPARC Program provides high-achieving students with access to rigorous research opportunities, promotes student-centered learning, includes room and board, and awards a $1,500 stipend to each participant.

We are incredibly proud of Brylee and excited to see all she accomplishes through this outstanding experience!

Today, LHS Research students are presenting at the state capitol, and I had the chance to see some familiar faces.
