Eva Dorcus for Tewksbury NJ School Board My name is Eva Dorcus and I’m a mother of 3 (6th, 2nd, and 1st graders) living in Tewks.

I believe

It looks like everything has been tallied. I’ve just been taking it all in for the past few days. It turns out that the experience was amazing and I have no regrets. I feel like a hidden community is coming together and finding each other. I’m honored to be part of that. I know the board of ed positions are supposed to be non-partisan so I tried my best to hold strong to my positions on subjects affected directly within the educational systems. But, I must say, it was hard walking that line and continuously having to defend myself against traditional conservative views on how children should be recognizing one another as they are and changes to our system in general.

I promise there won’t be any fading into the background for me. I will continue to bring us together and shine light on our strength. I’ll be here for Tewksbury youth and provide any support needed so their voices can be louder. This election has brushed Tewksbury a beautiful deep purple. It’s all very exciting.

Well it’s summer in November!
Gearing up for voting tomorrow I’m thinking about how thankful I am to have a supportive husband and family. My kids have been happy to be involved and my community is an unwavering foundation. Can’t thank everyone enough.

🍁Have you looked at the sample ballot so you’re informed before going to the polls tomorrow?

My drive to be on the Board of Education comes from having two children at Tewksbury Elementary School and one at Old Turnpike Middle School where I see how happy they are. They are in a place where they feel excited to learn and adore their teachers. It’s a place where there is a push for inclusivity.
⭐️⭐️⭐️Let’s make sure Tewksbury remains a community where great teachers want to teach.

👉🏼What motivates you to run for this office? What applicable background and experience do/will you bring to this position?

I am running for the Tewksbury School Board because I truly believe in the quality and consistency of public school. It allows for all income level families to have access to a wonderful education.
I want to make sure minority voices are heard on the school board. Approaching issues from different perspectives can only help in the effort to expand our understanding of the world and provide a more sustainable and fair environment. I am of a minority background as I am half Chinese and half Caucasian. I also have a background in finance and was the president of the PTA at my daughters public school in Philly for two years where the population was 85% Black. I am very good at getting to know people and building bridges. Building those connections makes me stronger as well.

Who’s ready for Halloween🧡🎃⭐️. This photo was taken 7 years ago today of me and my sister , Mac and her cousin. We were at the Harry Potter Festival in , conveniently located where we lived. It started off just like any neighborhood fest with a few vendors and some food and kid games, but in just a couple of years grew into this incredible event. We had a train stop and the characters would disembark and greet all the kids at the beginning of the day… People started coming from all over the east coast to visit our little nook of Philly because of the cobble stones and adorable Main Street buildings that gave a very Harry Potter feeling. Speakers were set up all along the avenue that played the sound track and wizards and witches were everywhere! What fabulous memories🍁.

Just sent this in for the CANDIDATES NIGHT…
My drive to be on the Board of Education comes from having two children at Tewksbury Elementary School and one at Old Turnpike Middle School where I see how happy they are. They are in a place where they feel excited to learn and they adore their teachers. Making sure Tewksbury remains a community where great teachers want to teach and where all children are accepted as who they are is where my passion lies.

Following a Bachelors in finance at Virginia Tech I found myself working in the stock market in Washington, DC. My husband and I met each other in college and a few years later got married while he was active military in Savannah, GA. As the medic for his team he gained enthusiasm for the field and decided to go to medical school in Philadelphia after his service. In Philly, within 5 years, we had 3 children and I went from finance to building my own social media business. My eldest daughter went to public school in the Chestnut Hill area of the city. I became the president of the PTA of that school and held the position for a couple of years.

It was very important for me to be involved in the community, not only with the PTA, but with my job as well. The networking piece of social media allowed me to connect closely with the people and businesses in the area. I’d like to continue that here in Tewksbury. We moved here two years ago knowing that the country was definitely the place for us. I’m looking forward to getting more involved.
