Much of Indiana is under a marginal risk for severe weather later today. Expect storms to start firing late afternoon into the evening hours. Expect around a half inch of rain, with isolated local spots getting up to 2+ inches of rain.

🌪Our forecast area's 32nd tornado of the year has been confirmed (From the morning of August 11th)...

While driving on S 300 E, Jay County Emergency Management came across a narrow path of damage to a mature soybean crop heading southeast at the extreme southern edge of Jay County. EMA noted some crop damage in the field behind them as well.

It is worth noting that because of weather, drone footage was not able to be gathered, so the track is limited to what is seen in the picture provided.

There were several social media reports that suggested a brief touchdown might have occurred on US Highway 27 a couple of miles to the northwest, however a ground survey in that area was not able to pinpoint and substantiate those reports enough to connect it to this EF-U.

High resolution satellite data has been requested for this area, and we will edit this preliminary track if we find additional evidence to support its extension southeast or northwest.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch for south-central Indiana until 9:00 PM. Wind, hail, and lightning are the biggest concerns, along with heavy rainfall in a region already saturated. Stay weather aware as a line of storms are heading your way.

The southern half of Indiana is under a Slight Risk for severe weather today. Damaging winds and heavy rainfall will be the biggest impacts. The morning round will then lead to an evening round of storms to move through southern Indiana today. The rest of the state will see spotty showers and thunderstorms from time to time.

A third line will move through overnight.

Then...most of us begin to dry out. Whew!
