You know what SLPs need? Another acronym. Just kidding!

But seriously, if we had to pick just one more, TACSI might be it. The TACSI goal-writing tool combines principles of the SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) framework and elements of the Rehabilitation Treatment Specification System (RTSS) and can be used by any SLP in any setting to write any goal. Really.

Read all about how to use this tool developed by Hamilton and colleagues in our research review “Give your goal-writing a ‘lift’ with TACSI.” Who knows? We just might outSMART ourselves.

Find it at https://www.theinformedslp.com/review/Give-your-goal-writing-a-lift-with-TACSI

The research: https://doi.org/10.1111/1460-6984.70128

[Visual description: Image text reads, "Got one or two (or 20) goals to write today? Try TACSI! Swipe to learn about this new goal-writing framework just for SLPs! TACSI offers explicit but flexible goal-writing guidance specifically designed for SLPs. Kind of like a template we can use to actually Write The Goal. SMART principles + RTSS elements = the TACSI tool: Target, Aspect and Measure, Context Hierarchy, Success Criterion, Ingredients. Check out our review for: Our point-by-point discussion of the TACSI framework, Real-life examples showing how TACSI can make our goal-writing more effective, and 15 minutes of CE. Don’t miss our summary chart and goal writing worksheet! We can always improve foundational aspects of our practice, right? Let’s get started at www.theinformedslp.com."]

When we work with AAC users with complex communication needs, its easy to focus on requesting, protesting, and asking for help because, well... those are functional communication skills.

But you know what else is functional? And important to feeling heard and respected? Communicating about emotions.

Our new research review, "Complex Emotions, Complex Communicators" explores two practical (and free!) tools that you can use to assess and teach emotional communication, even your most complex of communicators.

In this review, you'll find:

A free interview tool to better understand how a child communicates about emotions (available in three languages!)

An open-access protocol for teaching emotional communication through shared storybook reading

Research is always evolving, so we do too!

Thanks to a helpful nudge from one of our members, we revisited our review, "What works: The state of the evidence for language interventions" and updated it with the latest research.

This update synthesizes the newest evidence on language intervention, including phonology, morphology/syntax, vocabulary, and more. We also added links to many of the reviews published since the last update, from EI through school age.

For a jumping off point for evidence-based language therapy, check out the updated review, "What works: The state of the evidence for language interventions" at https://www.theinformedslp.com/review/what-works-the-state-of-the-evidence-for-dld-interventions

This update covers the latest evidence on... Phonology, Vocabulary, Morphosyntax, Narrative Language, Parent-Mediated Approaches, Receptive Language. Knowing where the evidence stands helps us make clinical decisions. And answer questions like “Is what I’m doing actually working?” Don’t let your language therapy go stale. We love going down the research rabbit hole, especially for our members. When a member asked "What does typical pronoun development look like?" our inner nerds took over. Many research articles later, we came up with our new Ask TISLP, "Me want cookies… and clarity about targeting pronouns"

In this review, you'll find everything you need to know about pronoun development, assessment, and intervention (and maybe even answers to some questions you didn't even think to ask!). Plus, this monster of a review will give you 34 minutes of CE credit!

Read "Me want cookies… and clarity about targeting pronouns" at https://www.theinformedslp.com/review/Me-want-cookies-and-clarity-about-targeting-pronouns

[Visual description: Image text reads, "What does typical pronoun development actually look like? You asked, we answered! Our new Ask TISLP covers: Typical pronoun developmental timelines, Which errors are expected (and when), Which errors deserve a closer look, Assessment and intervention tips. One of our favorite takeaways: Don’t just say “This pronoun is wrong”—Ask “Which feature is breaking down?” Don’t worry, we put together a printable table to help with this!" The SLP journey is a wild ride, and our needs often change as fast as the evidence does.

The "one size fits all" doesn't work for clinical support, which is why we’ve built specific lanes for every stage of your practice.

So, where do YOU fit in the mix?

🎓 The Student
🌱 The New Pro
🏆 The Seasoned Pro

💼 The Employer

Let us know in the comments! We’re curious to see who’s in the house. Then, hop over to TheInformedSLP.com to explore the tools we’ve prepped for you.

[Visual description: Image text reads, "Where are you in your SLP journey? Wherever it is (surviving grad school or running the whole show), there's a spot in this guide with your name on it. The Student. Grad school runs on caffeine, mild panic, and the leap from "I read about this once" to "I'm doing this in ten minutes." Our Start Here resources are your life raft—walking you through the evidence on a topic or diagnosis step by step. The New Professional. The first few years are equal parts imposter syndrome and slowly realizing that, yes, you are the expert in the room. The curve is steep, so use our searchable database for the latest evidence, plus clinical resources that turn research into something you can use with a client immediately. The Seasoned Pro. You know your stuff. Keeping up with new research, though? That's a full-time job in itself. Our monthly review drops give you the need-to-know updates without the journal searching or hour-long courses. It's all designed to help you stay current, keep growing, and earn CE in small pockets of free time. The Mentor & Educator. Shaping the next generation of SLPs is no small feat (and we see you). Request student access to give your students a resource they can use from their very first clinic all the way into their careers. (Fair warning: you'll probably use it yourself.) Head to theinformedslp.com/universities. The Employer. Few things strengthen a team like keeping everyone current, and supporting that growth is one of the most rewarding parts of leading SLPs. We want to hear your caseload questions (the ones that follow you home). Nothing’s too small, too niche, or too “shouldn’t I already know this”. Go ahead and offload them in the comments.

Our sale's still going, too: 20% off membership through August 12 with code ANSWER. You can join here: https://www.theinformedslp.com/join

Mostly because answering them with the current evidence is kind of our whole thing. So go ahead, ask the big one. That client, that goal, that "am I doing the right thing here?" you've been turning over all week. Whether it's AAC, dysphagia, fluency, or something you've never said out loud, this is the place to put it. Drop yours in the comments. We'll be reading each and every one. P.S.
