Call to Action: Support HB 2097, The Film Tax Credit Bill
IF YOU ARE A KANSAS RESIDENT **IMPORTANT**
Kansas Governor Kelly received the Film Tax Credit bill in HB 2097 yesterday, May 7, and now has ten (10) days to sign the bill to let it become law without her signature, or to veto the bill.
If the bill is vetoed, it will be dead. We will have to start over in January 2025. This is why it's imperative Kansans call the Governor’s office and encourage her to sign HB 2097, the Film Tax Credit bill.
The bill passed the House and Senate with great support. This law would be a major step in keeping Kansas competitive with our neighboring states, will usher in a new high-tech market, and will serve to keep our talented workforce in Kansas!
The Governor has faced a variety of tax and tax credit issues this session, and questions about tax policy remain after the session has ended. The Governor needs to hear from us about the benefits of this relatively small $10 million tax credit. Please make an effort to contact her no later than Monday, May 13. Calling (785) 296-3232 and leaving a message is the best way to expedite your message. Instructions will be given, and you will Press 4 to leave a message.
A simple message such as, "Hi, this is [full name]. I'm a resident of Kansas, living at [address], and a [state your job and title / a supporter of the arts]. A film incentive program will result in more job, business, and tourism opportunities. [Or you can use one of the bulleted points below.] Please sign House Bill 2097. Thank you."
Benefits of this film tax credit you can list include:
The value of the tax credit to you or your business or community.
The impact on economic development and tourism.
The ability to bring not just film and television, but also emerging fields such as gaming and VR.
Enabling the development of a new, high-tech and craft workforce, keeping our young people in Kansas.
Enabling Kansas' ability to compete with existing film tax credits in every other surrounding state.
