On behalf of the Miss Leavenworth County Scholarship Pageant, the Director Team wishes to share the following statement:
"We, the directors of the Miss Leavenworth County Scholarship Pageant, believe in the Miss America Program and the young women who participate in the program at the Princess, Teen, and Miss levels.
It has come to our attention that our current Miss America, Cara Mund, has been mistreated by the national director team, and this breaks our hearts.
Our program stands by the words of our Miss America, in essence, we .
During this tough time for Miss America, we will not cower, we will not let this be the end of the Miss America Program we know and love. We will stand with Cara, with our volunteers, with our contestants, past and present, to save our beloved organization.
Our four points, Style, Scholarship, Service, and Success, are more important than ever to emulate and strive for. With graceful style, we will persevere. With what we have learned through the scholarships provided by this organization, we will fight back. With countless hours of service and using our voices, we will stand up. With all of our sisters, volunteers, supporters, and titleholders, we will successfully save the organization that means the world to us.
Miss America is not just a title, it is not just a crown and sash. Miss America is all of us, it is who women strive to be; strong, powerful, educated. It is the woman we want our daughters to become. It is the power of women breaking through glass ceiling after glass ceiling. It is the ability to stand toe and toe with one another in the workplace and truly make things happen.
We, the directors of the Miss Leavenworth County Scholarship Pageant believe in Miss America and believe our Miss America. We stand with 22 states, including the state of Kansas, and ask that the current national board step down. We will not tolerate the devastating treatment of our Miss America outlined in her plea to her sister titleholders.
We guarantee that our program will not follow in the footsteps of the national board. We guarantee that every single person involved in our program will be valued and treated like they should, with humility and grace.
During this trying time, we ask that our community stand together to empower women of all ages. We ask that our community let their voices be heard, and support the young women who will be competing this year for the amazing opportunity to represent us at the local, state-wide, and national level.
Please and help us take back our organization.
With Deep Gratitude,
The Leavenworth County Scholarship Pageant Directors"
