This week our high school Environmental Systems students and Executive Director headed out to the new Liberty Hill property to collect soil samples and spread bluebonnet seeds our students collected this spring at the "OG Orchard". 🌱💙

Students will analyze the soil for substrate composition, fertility, and microorganisms, then use that information to learn how we can change soil conditions to support the plants we want to grow. They’ll be deeply involved in planning the new orchard, making decisions about the land, and eventually helping install it during our April 2027 Permablitz.

These two have also been with us since the beginning of The Academic Orchard. Both are doing partial dual enrollment now, while continuing to have their own individual paths and support here at TAO, and now they’re helping shape the next chapter. 🤩

🌱 Today is Maria Montessori’s birthday. And we have a pretty exciting reason to celebrate.

Maria Montessori believed children deserve environments designed for them: spaces where they can move, create, explore, work independently, and develop into capable human beings.

That idea has been at the heart of The Academic Orchard from the beginning.

And now, we’re about to build that environment on a much bigger scale.

📍 627 CR 282, Liberty Hill, TX

Our new 5-acre property is officially ours, and construction of our first classroom buildings is coming soon. We’re creating dedicated learning spaces, covered porches, outdoor learning areas, and a campus designed around the way our students actually learn.

And this is only Phase 1!👀 Check out the plans for BOTH Phase 1 and Phase 2 and take a look at what we’re building on our gorgeous 5 acres. 🌿🏗️

🚨 Middle School is nearly FULL. Only a few spots remain.
🌱 Elementary enrollment is filling quickly.
💰 Tuition increases in January as we move into our new property, buildings, and expanded program.

*Enroll now to secure the current tuition rate.*

We’re not just moving locations. We’re building the school we’ve been working toward all along.

Happy Birthday, Maria Montessori!! ❤️🌿

Elementary students took a trip to the orchard yesterday and admired the very lush garden, plus met a small friend. More than one nature journal admired two different kinds of dragonflies. As they move up through our program, they will be able to identify the outdoor world with more scientific classifications and terms. We took a quick hula-hoop break before moving on to our math work next.

Week one, year three is in the books, and we already have some more math converts! ➗🟰📐📏

One of the biggest phrases we repeat here is, “You aren’t bad at math. You just haven’t been taught it properly before.”

At TAO, we use a rigorous curriculum, Illustrative Mathematics, that begins each year with a Geometry unit while also introducing and emphasizing the precise language of mathematics. At The Academic Orchard, we pair those lessons with Montessori materials and math manipulatives to create rich, visual representations of mathematical concepts that students can mentally refer back to as they build their understanding of the world around them.

It’s no wonder that **every single student who started the year with us last year increased their math MAP scores**, with some students making absolutely jaw-dropping gains! 📈

We have had such a productive start to the school year so far. Once the dust settles (and the temperatures cool down), there will be so much more to share. Have a wonderful weekend!

Our Adolescence program had a great first day and we've been diving into the depths of our curriculum. The first day we did a few projects and got introduced to our nature journaling part of the day. Today is full swing our regular workdays with math, science and a few chosen specials, like theater and yoga.

Elementary had a really great first day of school at The Academic Orchard. We got to explore the park nearby and start our nature journals. Build some straw towers and set our community intentions. We are looking forward to a great year.

We are so very excited to see all of our students on the first day of school tomorrow! Here is the final short video to round out our series with Beth, our Humanities Director. Today is the speaking component of our ELA curriculum. Students 6th grade and beyond are required to participate in whole group socratic discussions with their opinions on different subjects found in the book being discussed.
