The Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV/Charter Boat Captain) is the most popular of the Captain's Licenses and is required for those who wish to operate fishing and sailing charters, run a dive boat, or offer sightseeing tours, etc. WWW.Captschool.com has developed an intuitive learning approach that's direct, clear, and effective. Our class materials will guide you through the learning process so you are able to absorb and retain the class materials. There are five modules:
Rules of the Road,
Navigation General
Navigation Plotting
Deck General, and
Deck Safety/Environmental Protection. Once you pass our class, you will not need to take any further Coast Guard testing to get your OUPV Captains License. When you pass this class and obtain your license from the Coast Guard, you will be entitled to carry up to six passengers "for hire." Including the Captain and Mate, that adds up to eight people authorized onboard power or sailing vessels up to 100-tons. We will guide you through obtaining or meeting all of the following requirements and filing your application. Requirements and Sea Service
360 days underway experience
90 of the 360 days in the last 3 years
Physical and Drug Test
Valid First Aid/CPR card
Birth Certificate or Passport
TWIC
Completion of a USCG approved course like ours. Which Consists of three week ends, (54 Hours of Class Time)
Completion of the Courses exams

For this license, a day of sea service is defined as at least 4 hours underway on any given calendar day and can be counted back to your 15th birthday. You do not have to know the exact dates - just the number of days each year. Claiming sea time is done on the honor system and requires no further verification other than your time as an operator of a boat. License Operating Area
This is a real class, not a computer based program. Now you can be a Captain and take people on the water for hire. Once you pass this class, meet the Coast Guard requirements, and file for your license, the license can be issued for the Great Lakes, U.S. Near Coastal waters up tp 100 miles from shore (depending on where you gained your experience). Each instructor is a USCG Licensed and has gone through a rigorous approval process meeting the standards of the United States Coast Guard to become a certified instructor. They bring a level of knowledge, experience, and professionalism that adds to the overall experience of obtaining your Captains license. Our low student to teacher ratios will get you the attention you will need to assist you to successfully complete the coursework and pass the required in class tests.

Do you want to learn how to do your own maintenance on your outboard. We are offering a class on how to service your lower unit. The following will be part of the class
1. Remove prop and thrust washer to inspect for fishing line.
2. Remove lower unit
3. Replace water pump impeller with service kit
4. Re assemble lower unit to outboard
5. Drain and replace lower unit fluid.

The price of the course does not include the parts required for your particular motor. However we will provide you the list of tools and parts and suggest vendors for you to order parts from. We offer a weekend Rules of the Road course to educate boaters about the Navigation Rules. Even if you have been on the water your entire life, this deep dive into the International and Inland Rules, will utterly amaze you at what you don’t know about navigating right here in Galveston Bay. Our Course is Friday evening, Saturday and 1/2 Day Sunday. This is the perfect gift for the avid boater. Our next class starts January 9th 2026. Call 281-384-2020 for more information.
