Coverage C on the FP 7955 form is for Loss of Use. This section of your homeowners insurance policy helps cover expenses if your home becomes uninhabitable due to a covered peril. It's designed to help you maintain your normal standard of living while your home is being repaired or rebuilt.
Here's a breakdown of the three main components of Coverage C:
* Additional Living Expense: This covers the necessary increase in your living expenses if you have to live elsewhere while your home is being repaired. This could include things like hotel bills, temporary rent, meals, and other related costs.
* Fair Rental Value: If you rent out part of your home, this coverage helps replace the rental income you lose while that portion of your home is uninhabitable due to a covered peril.
* Prohibited Use: This provides coverage for additional living expenses and fair rental value for a period of up to two weeks if a civil authority prohibits you from using your home due to direct damage to a neighboring property by a covered peril.
Important points to remember about Coverage C:
* Covered Peril: The loss of use must be caused by a peril covered by your policy, such as fire, windstorm, or hail.
* Uninhabitable: The damage must be severe enough to make your home uninhabitable, meaning you can't live there safely.
* Time Limits: There are typically time limits on how long the coverage will pay for additional living expenses or lost rental income. The FP 7955 usually covers up to 24 months for additional living expenses and 12 months for fair rental value.
* Documentation: It's essential to keep detailed records of all your expenses and any lost rental income to submit a claim.
If you have any questions about Coverage C or how it applies to your specific situation, it's always best to contact your insurance agent or company for clarification.
