Genesee Valley BOCES Genesee Valley BOCES serves more than 24,000 students in 22 school districts. Naming specific employees or students in a negative way will not be allowed.

Genesee Valley BOCES has created a page for the purpose of communicating with the families of the children we serve and the community. This page is provided for the community to share information on specific school district topics of interest. We will update this page as often as possible to share as much as we can about the achievements of the students and staff as well as other relevant school district community information. The Genesee Valley School Boards Association recently brought together school board members, superintendents, and administrators from component districts for an evening of connection, collaboration, and conversation about the future of education in our region.

Patrick D. Burk, Executive Director of the Genesee Valley School Boards Association, introduced Dr. Julie Donlon, who recently stepped into her role as GV BOCES District Superintendent. Drawing on her 25 years of experience in education, Dr. Donlon welcomed ideas and perspectives from regional school leaders, emphasizing her commitment to strengthening partnerships, expanding opportunities for students, supporting educational leaders, and ensuring GV BOCES remains responsive to the evolving needs of its component districts.

Casey Van Epps, GV BOCES Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Accountability, also spoke about his work with NY Inspires and the opportunities this statewide initiative presents to rethink learning, student success, and pathways beyond graduation.

The evening reinforced the importance of regional collaboration and the shared commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for every student across the Genesee Valley region.

Adding a special touch to the evening, Trevor Donlon, a Wayland-Cohocton Central School District alumnus, shared his musical talents with guests through a vocal performance during dinner.

On October 2, GV BOCES welcomed district teams for the first session of the New York Inspires Transformation Coalition, a statewide initiative designed by the New York State Education Department and implemented in partnership with BOCES.

This three-part series brings educators together to explore statewide guidance, share ideas, and develop local plans that reflect the needs of their students, schools, and communities. Our regional participation was so well attended that educational leaders worked across two conference rooms, with both spaces engaged in the same learning and planning opportunities!

We look forward to continuing this work together in February and May, as districts shape what New York Inspires will mean for their school communities.

Batavia Academy seniors kicked off their senior year with a Senior Sunrise Breakfast, sharing a delicious meal, music and time together in the cafeteria. In partnership with GCC and , three of our Batavia CTE Senior Animal Science students—Bella G., Lily R., and Meg G.—worked alongside veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and volunteers to spay and neuter 19 cats seeking homes. Under the guidance of Licensed Veterinary Technicians, the students gained valuable hands-on experience in surgery prep, intubation, vaccination, microchipping, and anesthetic recovery. This opportunity offered them insight into veterinary careers while supporting community animal welfare. We are looking forward to continuing our partnership with the GCC’s Veterinary Technology program and Logan’s Rescue for future spay/neuter services.
