The School Food Service Personnel Conference brought together 100 registered attendees at Livonia for a day of professional learning, networking and collaboration.

Keynote speaker Dr. Myke Merrill presented “CONFLICTelligence: Experience Conflict in an Intelligent Approach,” sharing strategies for approaching conflict with greater understanding and confidence. Rebecca Schorer shared information about rights and responsibilities in school nutrition programs before leading “Serving Success: Building Strong Teams in School Nutrition,” an interactive breakout session centered on communication, problem-solving and teamwork.

Chef Marianne Dayton of Affinity Group Northeast presented a chef demonstration and led a personality test breakout session that helped attendees learn more about their own personality traits and those of their coworkers.

Thank you to the presenters, conference committee, sponsors and attendees who helped make the conference an informative and engaging experience for school food service professionals.

Norb Fuest, president of the Genesee Valley BOCES Board of Education, has received the Anne Z. Paulin Distinguished Service Award from the Rural Schools Association of New York State.

Presented annually, the award recognizes a local board of education member or Rural Schools Association board member who demonstrates exceptional service to New York’s rural schools and has made significant contributions to the association. Recipients exemplify selfless leadership and inspire others to strengthen rural schools and communities.

Fuest, a longtime member of the Genesee Valley BOCES Board of Education, was recognized for his steady leadership and commitment to serving students, educators and communities throughout rural New York.

Fuest stepped into the role of chair of the Rural Schools Association Board two years ahead of schedule. He accepted the position unexpectedly and helped guide the organization through a significant period of transition.
