Welcome Back Le Roy CSD Teachers and Staff!

Superintendent Merritt Holly and the LCSD Board of Education welcomed back all teachers and staff at an Opening Day Assembly at Memorial Auditorium at Wolcott Street School on Tuesday morning.

New teachers and staff had the opportunity to introduce themselves and then current teachers and staff as well as they were recognized for their years of service to the District.

Several teachers, staff and administrators with 25-42 years of education service remained standing during the recognition, a testament to the commitment to education in the district.

Thank you to LCSD Music Department Chair Jacqueline McLean, and students Caleb Cone, Leah Cashin, Meredith Ianni, Reese Koukides, and Victoria Fetzer for beginning the day with the national anthem and a song of encouragement, Try Everything, to begin the school year.

Happy last day to Betty!

Betty has been at Le Roy Schools for 28 years and says she plans on coming back as a fill in when needed during the day shift.

"Its kind a sad, but knowing that I'm going to come back and sub makes it a lot easier. I'll still see the teachers and that. I'll really miss the kids because I really got to know them the last four years I 've been on days. When you work for Le Roy Schools it's like an extended family."

Betty's message to students?

"Keep those bathrooms clean!"

Thank you, Betty Dillon, for making our home away from home look beautiful, we look forward to your "sub" days at the Jr. Sr. H.S.

Seven miles of Rt. 19, beginning near Parmelee Road, is now named after Lt. Gary A. Scott, a 1963 graduate of Le Roy H.S.

Family, friends and the community along with Bruce Brattain, a Medic who served with Lt. Gary Scott, were on hand today during the unveiling of the sign on Rt. 19 and the Dedication Program at Trigon Park.

At the age of 22, Lt. Scott lost his life while serving with the U.S. Army in Vietnam as he was attempting to protect and cover his platoon.

Gary was a proud Le Roy Oatkan Knight. He was a class officer for four years, an honor student, and captain of the football team. On awards night, Gary received the John Armino Award.

Since 1969, the Gary Scott Memorial Scholarship has been awarded to a Le Roy graduating Senior. The Scholarship was established by ten of Gary's Syracuse roommates who are now in their 80s.

The Gary Scott Memorial was created to preserve Gary's memory as an inspirational hero and to recognize a Le Roy High School graduate who demonstrates similar promise each school year.
