LUSD students wrapped up summer School with a bang last week with many fun activities! Our Summer School K/1 class enjoyed a walking field trip to Heather Benzing's Weathertop Farm Stand! Students were treated to a refreshing watermelon snack before having the chance to hand-feed the watermelon rinds to Heather's friendly goatsβ€”a definite highlight of the day!

Students also selected a flower to transplant and take home, then wrapped up their visit with some fun yard games before walking back to school. It was a wonderful day of hands-on learning, outdoor exploration, and plenty of smiles. We are grateful for community partners like Heather who help make learning memorable!

Summer School and ASES Closure Extended – Friday, July 17th

Dear LUSD Summer School Families and Staff,

We wanted to provide a quick update regarding the water pipe break on the elementary campus. Unfortunately, repairs have taken longer than anticipated, and water service has not yet been restored.

As a result, Summer School and the ASES afternoon program will remain closed on Friday, July 17th. We anticipate that the summer session will continue on Monday, July 20th as planned.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to safely restore water service. We will continue to keep families informed as updates become available.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Bruce Peters
Superintendent
Laytonville Unified School District

Subject: Summer School and ASES Closure – Thursday, July 16

Dear Summer School Families and Staff,

Unfortunately, we are responding to a water pipe break on the elementary campus that has required the campus water supply to be shut off. Because we do not have a reliable timeline for when water service will be restored, we will be canceling Summer School and the ASES afternoon program on Thursday, July 16.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. The health and safety of our students and staff must remain our top priority, and we are unable to safely operate school programs without access to running water.

To help make up for the closure, the ASES summer program will be extended through August 4. Additional information regarding Ms. Maggie's program will be shared with families soon. At this time, the Summer School academic program is still scheduled to conclude on July 23 as planned.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this unexpected situation. We will provide additional updates if circumstances change.

Sincerely,

Bruce Peters
Superintendent
Laytonville Unified School District
