1ST PLACE MAKO IN THE GREAT SHARK RACE KILLED BY LONGLINERS.

After traveling 4,000 miles in 4 months and becoming the first tagged mako ever tracked crossing the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, the shark leading the Great Shark Race has been harvested by commercial longliners from Spain. This is the 3rd race participant killed since the race began in early Summer 2015.

In the three years that the Guy Harvey Research Institute has been studying makos, almost 20% of the tagged sharks have been harvested.
