No Doubt? No Doubt.

Listening Workshop THIS Friday, August 8

@ On Chord Academy – 7:00 PM & FREE

360 S Fort Lane , Layton, UT 84041

We’ll be listening to No Doubt — and yes, serving Ska-berry Shortcake (our very own strawberry shortcake creation that was inspired by No Doubt) for all who attend. Bring your ears, your sweet tooth, and maybe a chain wallet.

Our Listening Workshops are a chance to dig into great music with your brain and your ears. By learning how to listen like a musician, you become a better one — guaranteed.

🍓🍰 We wanted to serve a dessert that matched the energy of the band — fun, loud, and a little nostalgic. So naturally, we landed on Ska-berry Shortcake for our No Doubt Listening Workshop. But we didn’t want to phone it in with some store-bought fluff. No sir. John went deep. He learned how to properly macerate strawberries (yes, that’s a real word), and the result? A ridiculously good, from-scratch strawberry shortcake topping that hits as hard as the horn section in “Spiderwebs.”

Everyone who comes to our No Doubt Listening Workshop this Friday, August 8 at 7:00 PM gets their own plate of free Ska-berry Shortcake. Come for the dessert, stay to learn how to listen like a musician.

🎤 No Doubt
Formed in Anaheim, California, No Doubt started as a ska-punk band before exploding into the mainstream with their genre-bending blend of ska, reggae, punk, pop, and new wave. Fueled by Gwen Stefani’s iconic voice and stage presence, they helped bring ska to the suburbs and eyeliner to MTV.

🎺 Signature Sound:

• Ska-style guitar upstrokes and bright horn sections
• Reggae and new wave grooves
• Gwen Stefani’s elastic vocals — from punk yelps to pop melodies
• Lyrics that balance angst, attitude, and vulnerability

🎵 Notable Songs:
• “Just a Girl” – a feminist anthem wrapped in ska energy
• “Spiderwebs” – catchy hooks + horn section = peak 90s ska-pop
• “Don’t Speak” – heartbreak never sounded so beautiful
• “Hella Good” – a danceable banger from their later, more electronic phase

Join us this Friday, August 8 at 7:00 PM for our No Doubt Listening Workshop at On Chord Academy in Layton. It usually runs about an hour — and yes, there will be Ska-berry Shortcake.

No doubts about it.

RHYTHM & BEATLES - LISTENING WORKSHOP FRIDAY JUNE 13 @ 7PM

As one of the biggest bands to have ever been, it would be impossible to meaure the influence The Beatles had on the music industry and the culture at large. They are the most covered band in history, with more than 12,777 documented songs covering or sampling their music.

And it's not just rock and pop bands covering the Beatles. In the 60s and 70s a surprising number of Soul and R&B artists covered them as well. From Little Richard and Ray Charles to Aretha Franklin and Dionne Warwick, these covers are sometimes faithfull but more often significantly change and recontextualize the songs, forcing us to question what makes a song "itself".

Join us this Friday June 13 at 7pm for an On Chord Acadmey Listening Workshop we’re calling Rhythm & Beatles: From the Fab Four to the Four Tops. This event is free, and open to the public. We ususally for for around an hour.

Enjoy some exmaples of the kind of covers we’ll be learning about below.
