Cameron University is helping address Oklahoma's teacher shortage by creating innovative pathways that allow paraprofessionals and school support staff to earn their teaching certification while continuing to work in their local schools.

This summer, 15 Lawton Public Schools employees became the first cohort to begin the program, with eligible participants receiving 100% tuition and fee coverage from Grow Your Own funding, along with additional scholarship opportunities through the Inspire to Teach Scholarship, the federal TEACH Grant, and the recently awarded $300,000 CU TeachForwardOK grant.

Through flexible online coursework, paid work-based clinical experiences, teacher mentors, and strong partnerships with school districts across Oklahoma, Cameron University is removing barriers to becoming a certified teacher and helping grow the next generation of educators right here at home.

The On Campus Alumni Committee is proud to recognize Dr. Lisa Restivo for this well deserved honor. Helping to present the award were the second-grade students participating in Money Smart Camp here on campus where Dr. Restivo served as a Camp Director.
