Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell

"I believe that if you enjoy any sort of historical romance, Gone With the Wind is an absolute must-read. I feel like more people have seen the movie version of Gone With the Wind than those who have read the novel and I believe those people are missing out. The novel lets you get to know the characters more and thus you can understand their motivations or pains better. The movie even cuts out of one of my favorite characters from the novel, Will. However, it should be noted that the story and its take on history is problematic at best so one might want to keep this in mind when beginning the read."

Shopgirls by Jessica Anya Blau

"Admittedly, Blau is the author of my all-time favorite book, Mary Jane, so there probably is some bias in my love for Shopgirls. This was one of those reads that I wouldn't recommend to everyone, but it really scratched an itch for me. I enjoyed reading a story that felt completely untouched by the influence of the Internet. Taking place in 1985, Zippy's internal monologue, struggles, and relationships reflected living life without instantaneous access to information. This is a really fun coming-of-age and found family story. Zippy might be the coolest name ever. "

Wow in the World: Dinosaurs Are Wow! by Mindy Thomas and Guy Raz

"I have loved the Wow in the World podcast for kids for years and this book delivers the same silly fun. The illustrations are almost blindingly vibrant and the pages are jam-packed with information, quizzes, and fun facts. There are even QR codes that link to the relevant episodes of the podcast."

This program not only encourages children and families to read, but put those books in their hands. Her impact and support of literacy will never be forgotten.
