We’re proud to share that Great Plains Technology Center has been named one of the Top Trade Schools in Oklahoma by USA TODAY, with a 5 out of 5 star rating!

The rankings, are judged on five primary metrics: graduation rate, graduates' salary, years required to pay off net cost, social mobility and diversity.

This recognition is about more than a ranking. It’s a reflection of the people who make GPTC what it is every day: dedicated instructors, hardworking students, supportive families and industry partners who believe in the power of hands-on education.

At GPTC, we don’t just talk about careers. We put students in the shop, the lab, the salon, the clinic, the hangar and the classroom to build the skills they need for what comes next.

Dr. George I. Bridges was recently honored as All-State School Board by the Oklahoma State School Boards Association. Dr. Bridges has served on the GPTC school board since 1976 with a steadfast belief in education changing lives.

“Since 1976, Dr. George Bridges has led with a commitment that has never wavered —placing students, families, and communities across Southwest Oklahoma at the center of every decision,” Great Plains Technology Center Superintendent Joelle Jolly said. “His leadership has been at the forefront of nearly every major Great Plains Technology Center milestone. His selection to the OSSBA All-State Board of Education is a well-deserved recognition of a lifetime devoted to expanding opportunities, strengthening communities and putting students first. Few individuals have had such a profound and lasting impact on education in Southwest Oklahoma, and we are proud to celebrate this extraordinary honor with him.”

His leadership goes beyond the decisions made in the boardroom. Ensuring every student has the same opportunity to attend Great Plains Technology Center, he has sponsored the Dr. George Bridges Next Step Scholarship, which has helped ease the financial burden for more than 2,000 students and provided over $800,000 in financial relief.

Medical Services instructor Mrs. Metzger stepped into her influencer era this week with a GRWM (Get Ready With Me) to help prepare her students for life in the medical field.

The silly string represented the challenges and stressors healthcare professionals can face on the job, while the tools Mrs. Metzger was equipped with represented the resilience, skills and strategies students need to navigate those challenges. It was a pretty great reminder that preparing for a career in healthcare means preparing for more than just the technical skills and you have to be ready for whatever gets thrown your way!

Today, we’re celebrating National Aviation Day and the students who are building the skills to take aviation to new heights! 🛫

At Great Plains Technology Center, Aviation Maintenance students learn skills that matter in the real world, from aircraft inspections, repairs and troubleshooting to aircraft structures, riveting, technical drawings, corrosion control, tools and safety.

Our program prepares students for the next step, whether that means entering the aviation workforce or continuing their education and training. Career opportunities can include Aircraft Maintenance Technician, Aircraft Mechanic, Aviation Maintenance Technician, A&P Mechanic, Aviation Mechanic and more.

This is a BIG moment for CareerTech in Oklahoma!

Oklahoma CareerTech is expanding partnerships with colleges and universities to help technology center graduates turn their industry-recognized certifications and hands-on training into college credit. New articulation agreements are creating a pathway for eligible CareerTech program completers to earn block credit toward an Associate of Applied Science in Applied Technology degree.

And we think this sends an important message: CareerTech and college aren't an either/or. They can be both.

CareerTech can be the starting point for a skilled career and a pathway to higher education. Students don't have to choose between hands-on training and a college degree. They can build skills, earn industry credentials, gain experience and continue their education.

That means more options. More opportunity. More momentum for students and for Oklahoma's workforce.

We're excited to see these partnerships grow and even more excited about what the future holds for CareerTech! The possibilities are getting bigger.
