The McMahon School of Business recently welcomed Cameron University alumnae Lacey Barger and Kimberly Furrh to share their knowledge and career experiences with our accounting students.

Lacey Barger, CPA, licensed securities advisor, and partner at Barnes, Welsh & Perry in Lawton, joined the Professional Practice in Accounting class. She earned her Bachelor of Accounting degree, summa cm laude, from Cameron in 2013 and her MBA in 2019. Her achievements include being named a 2018 Trailblazer by the OSCPA and recognized as one of Oklahoma’s top 20 new CPAs that same year.

Kimberly Furrh, CPA, CGMA, Certified Tax Coach, and Managing Partner of Furrh & Associates, P.C., also shared her insights on public accounting, career growth, and opportunities in the field. A 1999 Cameron graduate with a Bachelor of Accounting degree, Kimberly leads a firm featured on the 2025 Inc. 5000 list.

We are grateful to Lacey and Kimberly for sharing their experiences and helping prepare the next generation of accounting professionals!

Congratulations to Jose Ramirez, a Cameron University senior and OSCPA scholarship recipient, on this well-deserved recognition as he works toward graduation in May 2027!

After serving six years in the U.S. Army and being medically retired in 2024, Jose chose Cameron University for its strong support of veterans. He is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting with a minor in business.

With certifications in CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Network+, and Cisco CCNA, Jose plans to combine his information technology expertise with accounting to become a CPA and serve the Lawton community.

Above all, Jose considers being a father and husband his greatest achievement. With the support of his wife, Reyna, he continues to pursue his education while preparing for a meaningful career.

We’re proud to celebrate Jose’s accomplishments and his journey toward becoming a future CPA!

Cameron University, in partnership with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is pleased to invite your school to participate in Fraud Awareness Day on Monday, November 16th, 2026.

Fraud Awareness Day is designed for 10th through 12th graders who have a specific interest in careers relating to accounting/finance/business/leadership, forensic investigation, and/or criminal justice.

Registration is free; each school can register up to 5 students and 1-2 teachers. Students and teachers who register before October 21st will receive a free t-shirt. Free lunch, snacks, and swag will be provided to all participants. The attached flyer includes more information, including the agenda and a link to event registration.

Fraud Awareness Day will last from 8:00am to 2:00pm, and will provide students with the opportunity to:

• Learn how fraud happens and how it affects individuals and organizations
• Discover how financial fraud is investigated
• Hear from industry and investigative professionals, including an OSBI Forensic Auditor/Special Investigator and the CEO of the Oklahoma Society of CPAs
• Take part in a hands-on fraud investigation activity

Please share this invitation with teachers and other staff members who are able to identify interested students.

Huge congratulations to Dr. Aubree Walton for being inducted into the Cameron University Faculty Hall of Fame!

A 1999 Cameron graduate, Dr. Walton has spent more than two decades serving students, supporting her colleagues, and helping future leaders grow. As a professor, attorney, CPA, and now the Virginia Brewczynski Endowed Chair, she continues to lead through education and service.

Her commitment to “the pursuit of excellence in service to others” is a powerful example of what it means to make a lasting impact at Cameron University and in our community.
