Thursday the Lawrence County CEO class visited Dorney’s Pumpkin Patch. Kim Dorney talked to the class about some of the challenges she encountered this season. Due to the heavy rains she had to replant one of her patches three times. Due to this she was not able to replant some of her varieties. This also had an impact on her profits and supply of pumpkins. Kim loves having the pumpkin patch. Being a retired teacher she loves seeing the kids enjoying the many activities at the patch and many are able to take a pumpkin home. It is great to have this small business in our community. Thank you for a great visit.

Running the Lawrence County Health Department (LCHD) is a big job. There are several different services provided and agencies housed there. The Lawrence County CEO class visited LCHD and heard about just what it takes to manage this facility. Amy Marley, Administrator and Liz Weber, Human Resources Director spoke to the class about the many services that are housed at LCHD. They also shared the importance of trying to bring these services together to better serve Lawrence County. Managing personnel and being fiscally responsible are very important to running a business. We enjoyed hearing about LCHD and its’ services and taking a tour of the facility. Thank you for Lawrence County Health Department for having us.

The Lawrence County CEO class enjoyed visiting the City of Sumner. Mayor Betty Brian and City Administrator Travis Trainer talked about the many things that go into running city government. They both shared about some of the grants the city had been awarded and how they have benefited the citizens. It was also interesting to hear about the many events the city supports. Thank you Mayor Brian and City Administrator Trainer for a great visit.

Last week Mark Bowler, CEO Bowler Performance Transmissions was our guest speaker. Mark has been an Investor, Board Member and Mentor for the Lawrence County CEO program for many years. He shared with the class you must have a passion for your business. Find something you like to do when choosing your business. Work hard and make good on what you say you will do. First impressions are incredibly important. The connections you make in CEO and throughout your life are so valuable. We are so lucky to have Mark Bowler and Bowler Performance Transmissions as an Investor, Board Member and supporter of the Lawrence County CEO program.

On Wednesday, the CEO class had interviews with their future mentors. Each student got to choose their top mentors to work with! Thank you to all of our CEO program mentors that give their time to help and guide these students!

What a great Monday. The Lawrence County CEO class visited Dairy Dee. We learned about the business. It was very interesting to hear how they determine their pricing. There are many factors that you have to take into consideration when determining your products price. We concluded the visit with ICE CREAM!!! Thank you Dairy Dee for a great Monday visit.

Thursday the Lawrence County CEO class were guests at the Mid-American Air Center. Devon Hill provided the class with information on the history of the George Field. We all could not believe the number of soldiers who lived at George Field and the many planes that landed and took off. We got to see some really cool planes and get a great view of the entire airport from the tower. Thank you Mid-American Air Center for a great visit.
