Former NFL player and broadcaster Ryan Clark recently left ESPN.

Now former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz has joined Clark's Pivot25 Productions as an investor and strategic partner.

THAT caught my attention.

Not because everybody needs a media company.

Because there's a lesson here about ownership.

A company can give you a position.

A customer can give you revenue.

A platform can give you an audience.

But none of those things should be confused with what YOU actually own.

Your reputation.

Your relationships.

Your intellectual property.

Your database.

Your systems.

Your expertise.

Your brand.

Those assets can travel with you.

Entrepreneurs especially need to understand this.

Don't spend ten years becoming valuable while building absolutely nothing you control.

Income pays you today. Ownership gives you options tomorrow.

Whew.

Somebody needed that one.

Business owners what are you building right now that still belongs to YOU if everything around you changes?

One of Hollywood's biggest combinations just moved another step closer.

Paramount.

Warner Bros.

HBO.

CBS.

CNN.

Massive libraries.

Massive distribution.

Massive audiences.

And here's the business lesson hiding behind all those famous names:

Sometimes growth isn't about creating another product.

It's about controlling more of the ecosystem.

Attention.

Distribution.

Customers.

Intellectual property.

Relationships.

Infrastructure.

Small business owners obviously aren't out here buying Warner Bros. 😂

But the principle scales down.

Instead of asking:

“How can I work harder?”

Ask:

“What asset, system, employee, equipment, relationship or acquisition would make this business more valuable?”

That's a MUCH more sophisticated question.

Because eventually…

The goal isn't to personally do more work. The goal is to own more of what produces the result.

That's when you're starting to think beyond self-employment and into enterprise.

The Fed recently raised rates again.

And Fed officials are still talking about persistent inflation.

So here's something business owners and consumers may need to hear:

You can spend the next year waiting for the financial environment to become perfect…

or you can spend that year improving your position inside the environment you actually have.

Those are two very different strategies.

Because you don't control:

❌ The Federal Reserve
❌ Interest rates
❌ Inflation
❌ Bank underwriting
❌ The economy

But you have a lot more influence over:

✅ Your credit profile
✅ Your utilization
✅ Your cash reserves
✅ Your documentation
✅ Your debt load
✅ Your profitability
✅ Your financial relationships

That's where I want the focus.

You don't need the economy to cooperate before you start becoming financially stronger.

And if rates eventually become more favorable?

Good.

You'll meet that environment in a better position than you started.

That's called playing offense.

Want to know one of the most expensive words in funding?

URGENT.

“I urgently need $30,000.”

“I need funding by Friday.”

“I found the equipment already.”

“The contract starts next week.”

“I need inventory immediately.”

I've heard my fair share of those sentences.

And sometimes options exist.

Sometimes they don't.

But here's what people rarely understand until they're living it:

Urgency changes leverage.

When you have time, you can evaluate.

You can prepare.

You can improve your financial position.

You can compare options.

You can say no.

When you're desperate?

You're usually trying to make whatever is available work.

That's why I tell business owners:

Stop thinking about funding only when you need money.

Start thinking about your ability to ACCESS money as part of running the business.

Capital is most powerful when it's an option and not an emergency.

That one mindset shift can change the way you run your entire company.

One of the fastest ways to get denied for funding is to apply for everything you see. 🚫💳

People think more applications mean more chances.

No.

More random applications usually mean more inquiries, more denials, and a profile that starts looking desperate.

Do this instead:

Know what the lender is looking for before you apply.
Check your credit profile.
Check your utilization.
Check your recent inquiries.
And make sure the product actually matches your situation.

Funding is not a lottery ticket. It is a positioning game.

The goal is not to apply everywhere. The goal is to apply where your approval already makes sense. 🎯

Before your next application, slow down and get positioned

“I’ve got a 700. Why would I get denied?” 👀

Because lenders don’t fund a credit score.
They evaluate the profile behind it.

A solid score can still sit beside:

High utilization.
A thin credit file.
Recent inquiries.
Limited payment history.
Or accounts that don’t support what you’re applying for.

That’s why I tell people:

Stop asking, “What’s my score?” and start asking, “What does my profile say?”

If you’re planning to apply for funding and want to understand your credit profile first, DM me “PROFILE” before making your next move.

Getting denied can mess with you more than people admit. 💳

Especially when you work, pay bills, make decent money…and thought your credit was “good enough.”

But hear me:

A denial is information. It is NOT your financial identity.

The worst move is getting embarrassed and immediately applying somewhere else hoping for a different answer.

Sometimes you need to stop applying and start understanding what your credit profile is actually saying about you.

That’s where strategy starts.

If you’re tired of guessing what’s holding you back, DM me “PROFILE” if you want to have a conversation about understanding what’s showing on your credit profile before making another move.

MYTH: “The lowest monthly payment is automatically the best deal.” 💳

Nope.

A lender can make almost anything look affordable by stretching the repayment period long enough. 😅

$450 a month sounds better than $650.

But if that $450 keeps you paying for years longer?

You could spend thousands more overall.

That’s why I don’t look at debt and ask only:

“Can I afford the payment?”

I also ask:

“What will this money cost me by the time I’m DONE paying?” 💰

Monthly payment tells you about cash flow.

Total repayment tells you the price of the decision.

Know both.

Business owners will say:

“Hiring somebody costs too much.”

Then spend 4 hours doing a job they could’ve paid somebody $100 to handle. 😂

My brother… my sister…

YOU cost too much for that.

There’s a point where doing everything yourself stops saving money and starts costing the business growth.

Your time has a dollar value too.

So let’s argue today. 👀

If hiring someone freed up 10 hours of your week, would you:
A) Sell more
B) Work less
C) Somehow find 10 MORE things to do 😂
