Students participated in a hands-on STEM activity where they assembled pre-made kite kits. They followed step-by-step instructions to construct their kites and explored basic engineering concepts such as structure, stability, and design. After assembly, students tested their kites and made simple adjustments to improve flight performance. This activity supported problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and an introduction to how design and construction influence how objects function in real-world applications.

Third-grade students at our 2026 Summer Academy took their physics lesson outdoors for a hands-on STEM flight lab using ready-made kites. Acting as meteorologists and aerospace engineers, students investigated the forces of lift and gravity by testing two different launch methods, flying solo versus working in two-person teams. By observing the wind and tracking the results on a checklist, students discovered firsthand how teamwork and the correct βangle of attackβ create the balanced forces needed for a successful flight.

Today was more than just Totaro Elementary Schoolβs final staff potluck, it was a celebration of love, memories, friendship, and family. As we gathered together one last time around tables filled with some of the BEST food ever cooked, we also took time to celebrate and honor our four amazing international teachers who will soon return home. Each teacher received heartfelt salutes from the Totaro Family, and in return, they shared beautiful words of appreciation and love for the school and community that became their second home. Throughout the event, teachers and staff reflected on years of memories, shared countless laughs, shed a quite few tears, and reminded one another of the impact Totaro has had on all of our lives. People often say their workplace is like family, but the Totaro Family truly shares a bond like no other. The love inside these walls has always been real, and although this chapter is coming to an end, the memories, friendships, and legacy of Totaro Elementary School will live on forever.
Oh yeah, we wore black, green, and or gold for the Jamaican flag and black and gold for the Bahamian flag.
