Jody Sills and Lynn Nehez founded the school in 1993. We believe this fosters a family-like setting that is unique to Oak Meadow Montessori.

This sounds like a great opportunity to learn more about how and why Practical Life is such an important part of Montessori classrooms.

Why does your child spend time pouring water, polishing, or washing dishes?

These simple, everyday activities are doing far more than they appear. They are building independence, coordination, concentration, and a deep sense of responsibility.

Join us for Pour, Polish, Grow: How Practical Life Nurtures Your Child, a live online webinar exploring the powerful role of Practical Life in the Montessori environment. Together, we’ll unpack why these purposeful activities are foundational for development and how they support both academic and social growth.

This session is designed especially for parents who want a deeper understanding of what their child is truly gaining through hands-on work. You’ll also leave with ideas for supporting independence and meaningful participation at home.

What we’ll explore:

• The philosophy behind Practical Life
• How everyday work supports development
• Ways to nurture independence at home
• Live Q&A

Whether you're new to Montessori or deepening your understanding, this conversation will shift how you see the work of childhood.

A recording will be available for those who can’t attend live.

As Montessori Education Week comes to a close, we are reflecting on the incredible timelessness of this scientifically designed system of education. While the world around us has changed beyond recognition since 1907, the heart of the Montessori classroom remains beautifully constant.

Dr. Montessori didn’t just create a "trend", she discovered a timeless truth about how children learn and develop that is consistently backed up by current research.

"It is the child who makes the man, and no man exists who was not made by the child he once was." -Dr. Maria Montessori

"The one who falls and gets up is stronger than the one who never tried. Do not fear failure but rather fear not trying."
-Jackie Robinson

On their field trip to the Aurora Theater, the OMMS Upper Elementary students learned how Black leaders and pioneers faced incredible obstacles, yet they continued to persevere. Jackie Robinson demonstrated this perseverance when he broke barriers in baseball, even when others doubted him.

At Oak Meadow Montessori School, children develop courage and resilience to grow into strong, capable individuals. Just like the Black leaders they study, they are learning that they are strong, not because they never fail, but because they never give up.

Who doesn’t love freshly squeezed orange juice? Behind all the fun of squeezing the oranges and the delicious juice, the child is also developing their hand strength and coordination. 🍊

Flower arranging in our Montessori environment is a moment of calm, creativity, and purpose.

Children carefully choose blooms, pour water, and design their own arrangements. Watching their faces light up as they bring beauty into their space is a reminder of how delicate and precise tasks foster concentration.

With an abundance of caution and in consideration of our families and staff members who drive a long distance to get to school, we are going to follow the lead of Gwinnett County Public Schools and close tomorrow, Monday, February 2.

OMMS is open tomorrow, Tuesday, January 26 operating on a normal schedule.

We encourage everyone to use caution when traveling, allow extra time for the morning commute, and ensure students are dressed warmly and appropriately for the forecasted low temperatures. Please remember to label your children's hats and gloves (and other belongings), as they are easily misplaced.
