It’s challenging to remain diplomatic when our lawmakers openly express their views so clearly.

Too often, the very lawmakers who believe your child should be confined to the public schools they opted out of are the ones sending their own children to private schools. Clearly, there must have been some deficiency in their zoned schools that led them to seek out other options. Are the public schools not good enough for their children, but somehow more than suitable for yours? Or do they think you're too poor and stupid to notice the difference?

Representative Lydia Glaize (D) from House District 67 (Coweta and Fulton County) recently expressed her hypocritical opinions on allowing parents, whose children are zoned for failing schools in Georgia, to access education funds and apply them to a school of their choice. She stated, “I see parents being able to direct their child’s education, and they are already in the lower 25th percentile, meaning a lot of those parents did not finish high school – could not finish their own education. I am extremely concerned that we would put money in the hands of parents who are not qualified to make those decisions.”

It’s also worth noting that Rep. Glaize serves on the House Education Committee. This raises questions about her views on the very people who likely attended these schools and voted her into office.

** Matthew Hammett is running against Glaize in the upcoming General Election.

While I can't cite a specific statistic, I can tell you that 9 times out of 10, when parents share their desperation for better educational opportunities, it’s because their child struggles with a reading impairment that their zoned school fails to address. Often, this failure is due to willful neglect in providing the necessary interventions and supports for that child's success. As parents, we can't afford to wait for our districts and state offices to take reading retention rates seriously.

My friend at Black Literacy Matters, founded by a fellow , Clarice Jackson, have created an excellent hub of resources for parents and teachers alike. This initiative helps meet the literacy needs of all children, with a particular focus on underserved students.

We can't forget the passing of Georgia's first-ever ESA bill, the Georgia Promise Scholarship! This achievement, along with everything else accomplished last session, is a fantastic step in the right direction, proving that Georgians can do it all. 🙌 Thank you, Representative Karen Mathiak, for supporting educational freedom in Georgia. It's crucial that we elect lawmakers who back the causes highlighted in your original post.

With Georgia’s children returning to school this month, Georgia’s House Republicans are highlighting accomplishments that have set teachers and students up for success. ✨ We have made big strides in recent years, and we will continue to put our efforts into fully funding public schools, raising teacher pay, providing grants for security measures, expanding Pre-K programs, protecting girls' sports, banning age-inappropriate materials, and implementing proven methods to improve reading skills.

Voices are heard at Cornerstone Christian Academy 08/20/2024

Last Sunday, the The Atlanta Journal-Constitution shared a story, reporting Cornerstone Christian Academy as the Top Work Place #1 Small Company finish.

Founded in 2001 with eight students, the K-8 school has grown to its comfortable maximum enrollment of about 458 kids, (Headmaster) Creel said.

Creel was quoted as saying: “We have no desire to increase the amount of students walking our halls,” he said. “On the flip side, we do have a strong desire to improve the student as well as teacher experience at Cornerstone by expanding our footprint.”

Cornerstone Christian Academy participates in the Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program making the school more accessible to students who need the opportunities it offers. This insightful article inadvertently emphasizes the need for additional teaching opportunities for educators who are also striving to benefit from what Cornerstone provides.

“It is deeply meaningful to me that, five years after presenting this measure to the Senate, we have come together to support this tailored bill. SB 233 is designed to prioritize families in the decision-making process for their children’s education, offering choice and alternatives for those enrolled in schools that may not adequately serve their needs" Sen. Greg Dolezal on the passage of SB 233, The Act. 🙌
