An Interactive Virtual Class for Parents of High School Juniors & Seniors!

It’s a challenge to make sure your teen is prepared for the life skills college requires. After you’ve advocated for your child for 18 years, colleges will view your student as a capable adult. In reality, many first-years are unprepared for independent living and learning without the scaffolding of home.

Dr. Brenner’s three-session virtual class is here to help. Attendees will gain a complete list of the critical life skills their college-bound students should master before leaving home and tools for teaching these skills. Parents will learn strategies to help guide their teen toward independent problem solving, building resilience after setbacks, and creating space for their own personal and intellectual discoveries.

Our original Talking College™ card deck provides prompts for high school teens and their parents to start discussions about the transition to college. Some of these discussions include brainstorming about how students will “find their people” on campus.

Today I'll be training Peer Leaders from Vanderbilt University! These student leaders will be working with the incoming students of the First View Mentorship Program, which connects first-generation students with undergrad and grad mentors to offer guidance, community and support from day one.

Today I'm in Lawrenceville, GA speaking to incoming and prospective students about first year success at Georgia Gwinnett College! Last night I was honored to return to Jackson-Reed High School in Washington, DC to speak with parents. Two J-R alumni who have successfully finished their first years of college shared the stage with me adding their personal stories. This is such a warm and welcoming community!
