The folks at KU work hard to make this a free all-inclusive workshop for any Native American high schooler (rising freshman to graduating seniors) interested in journalism writing, T.V. broadcast, documentary filmmaking, and podcast.
To get this experience for free, be sure to fill out the short scholarship essay. There are also opportunities for free travel.
Students will spend July 6-10 staying at the dorms at the University of Kansas and working with professional Native American media makers in the field.

On April 15, 2026, we spent the day at Prairie Park Elementary School's first ever Cultural Celebration. Miss Indian Youth of Lawrence, NaFehna Farve, and Jr Miss Indian Youth of Lawrence, Riley Alva, began their day with Kindergarten and First grade classes. Both NaFehna and Riley took turns presenting and explaining parts of their regalia, materials used in each piece, and their significance. Our new friends were so amazing throughout and asked so many good questions. ️
We ended the day with Fourth and Fifth grade classes and some NYO(Native Youth Olympics) action. Our NASS Coordinator (David Farve) spoke about the history of NYO and its events. Miss Indian Youth of Lawrence (NaFehna Farve), and Jr Miss Indian Youth of Lawrence (Riley Alva) demonstrated the Seal Hop(modified version) and Eskimo Stick Pull. NaFehna and Riley helped 4-5th graders in their attempts at both the Seal Hop and Eskimo Stick Pull. At the end, a couple of teachers got in on the Stick Pull.
It was an amazing time! Thank you so much to Prairie Park Elementary School for having us💛
