TRIO at KU

Our students had an amazing experience in Costa Rica during this year's Developing Global Perspective class! They learned about the unique environments of San José and Monteverde; connected with University of Costa Rica students and presented on student issues; painted buildings at the Children's Eternal Rainforest; and saw a tayra, coati, howler monkey, toucan, and so much more on the night and day hikes led by Pasión Costa Rica!

Congrats to TRIO SSS graduate Shane Huang! Shane has earned his B.S. in Computer Engineering.

We're excited to share a new KU TRIO SSS award: the TRIO Trailblazer! A TRIO Trailblazer is a graduating senior and active TRIO SSS participant who epitomizes the TRIO values of academic success, active engagement, and reciprocity to the TRIO community.

One of this year's TRIO Trailblazers is Anjali Singh, who is graduating with a B.A. in Human Biology, a B.A. in Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies, a minor in Public & Population Health, undergraduate certificates in Gender, Law and Policy and Global Awareness, and with university honors. Anjali is passionate about community health options and has provided information and assistance on SNAP applications to TRIO SSS students and staff. We're going to miss seeing Anjali, but we know she's going to continue improving lives through her volunteer, research, and academic pursuits.

We had a wonderful time celebrating our students, graduates, and the entire TRIO SSS community during last week’s End of the Year Celebration! One of this year's TRIO Trailblazers is Toby Brown, who is graduating with her B.S. in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology and a minor in Sociology! Toby comes into the TRIO SSS office with a smile on her face, often with her youngest (also named Toby). Adult Toby is always eager to share her knowledge from classes and offer a helping hand. We're going to miss Toby (and little Toby), but we know she's going to continue to brighten the days of everyone fortunate enough to cross her path.

Congrats to soon-to-be TRIO SSS graduate Vivian Lara! Vivian is completing her B.S. in Computer Science, a minor in Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and a certificate in Cybersecurity.

Congrats to soon-to-be TRIO SSS graduate Ritwik Goyal! Ritwik is completing his B.S. in Finance; he will earn his B.S. in Computer Science in Summer 2026 and his B.A. in Theatre in Fall 2026.

Congrats to soon-to-be TRIO SSS graduate Hannah Bacud! Hannah is completing her B.A. in Human Biology, B.S. in Behavioral Neuroscience, and undergraduate certificates in Arts Engagement, Global Awareness, and Service Learning.
