One Last Post: My Reflections on Campus Ministry — INSTITUTE FOR FAITH & CULTURE

Dear friends, I have written my last post for the IFC blog 'Wonder and Hope.' It is from the heart and includes my reflections on campus ministry. May God continue to bless all those engaged in the vineyard of campus ministry!

One Last Post: My Reflections on Campus Ministry — INSTITUTE FOR FAITH & CULTURE As many of you know, I will be leaving the Institute for Faith & Culture and the St. Lawrence Center to take up the position of Headmaster at the Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri in the Kansas City Metro area. Dear friends, many of you already know this, but for those who don't, I will be leaving the IFC at the end of this semester. After the St. Lawrence Center leadership team decided to take the ministry in another direction (classes will not be offered) and spend less resources on formation, it was discerned that I was not a good fit for the center. Thanks to God's loving providence, I have recently accepted a position to be the Headmaster at a new Catholic classical high school starting in the Kansas City Metro area, the Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri. I will always be grateful to God for leading me to St. Lawrence and the many friendships I have made here, but I am very excited for this new adventure! 8:28

The Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri is excited to announce the hiring of Dr. Luke Murray as Headmaster!
Dr. Murray is passionate about reaching young people with the truth and joy of the Gospel and forming well-rounded servant leaders able to flourish wherever the Lord leads them. He comes to Chesterton after having served as the Berkel Chair of Theology and leading the Institute for Faith and Culture in Lawrence, Kansas. He received a PhD in Historical Theology and did postdoctoral work at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium), and also has a PhD in Systematic Theology from Ave Maria University, a Masters Degree in Theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville, and an undergraduate degree in Philosophy from his time discerning the priesthood at Mt. Angel Seminary. He enjoys spending time with his wife Katie and daughters Juliette (6) and Alice (4), playing board games, guitar, piano, and watching the Chiefs and Jayhawks. They are eager to move to KC to begin building and growing the Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri in Kansas City!

The Dark Side of Social Media. Pope Francis & The Social Dilemma on the Dangers of Social Media. — INSTITUTE FOR FAITH & CULTURE What does Pope Francis' recent encyclical 'On Fraternity and Social Friendship' have in common with the recent Netflix documentary ' The Social Dilemma?' Reading through Pope Francis' latest Encyclical 'On Fraternity and Social Friendship' and this paragraph jumped out at me:

50. Together, we can seek the truth in dialogue, in relaxed conversation or in passionate debate. To do so calls for perseverance; it entails moments of silence and suffering, yet it can patiently embrace the broader experience of individuals and peoples. The flood of information at our fingertips does not make for greater wisdom. Wisdom is not born of quick searches on the internet nor is it a mass of unverified data. That is not the way to mature in the encounter with truth. Conversations revolve only around the latest data; they become merely horizontal and cumulative. We fail to keep our attention focused, to pe*****te to the heart of matters, and to recognize what is essential to give meaning to our lives. Freedom thus becomes an illusion that we are peddled, easily confused with the ability to navigate the internet. The process of building fraternity, be it local or universal, can only be undertaken by spirits that are free and open to authentic encounters.
