“Across my time at KU, I was fortunate to learn from incredible mentors, colleagues, friends, and communities who helped shape who I am today and taught me how to engage communities in improving health at a systems level.” ❤️💙

Meet Ruaa Hassaballa, a Ph.D graduate in Behavioral Psychology with a focus on community health and development in the KU Department of Applied Behavioral Science. Ruaa follows the path of her sister, Dr. Ithar Hassaballa, who graduated from the same program in 2017 with her Ph.D. 💙❤️.

Their journey from Sudan to the United States began in 1999, carrying with them their family’s hopes, resilience, and belief in education and community. Today, they are leaders in community health and systems transformation creating more people-centered care locally, nationally, and globally. They were inspired by their father Dr. Hassaballa O. Hassaballa who graduated with his Ph.D in Cultural Anthropology at the University of Washington in 1986.

Congratulations, Ruaa! 🎓

🎬 “Being a part of the film department and working on set was a defining part of my time at KU. Getting the chance to create my capstone was one of the best experiences I've had!”

Meet Alexas Wilmoth, a Plano, Texas native who after graduating with a BGS in Film & Media Studies and a minor in Sports Management is continuing her studies at KU this fall to pursue a Master’s in Sports Management before heading off to Naval Officer school. Her advice for fellow Jayhawks is “Take every opportunity you can! Even if you’re scared!”

We’re so proud of you, Alexas! 👏

🎭 “During my undergrad, I was able to perform with my best friends in a musical, Milking Christmas, that was co-written by the then musical theatre teacher Ryan McCall. We all just found so much joy and whimsy in that show, and created so much magic. ” ✨

Meet Callee Harris, a recent College grad (Psyc BA and Theatre minor) and Hutchinson native who just completed her Masters in Social Work. Callee is dedicated to making the world a better place for future generations. Her advice for every Jayhawk? “Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. This is the time to take chances.”

Way to go, Callee! 🎓
