Over December break, our alumni returned to Esperanza for “Alumni Connect,” an evening built around reconnection, resource-sharing, and celebration. One highlight was our pop-up bodega, stocked with thoughtful essentials for our high school and college-aged grads. Each item, from planners and pens to lint rollers and chapstick was selected to help our alum as they continue their academic and professional journeys. Alumni “shopped” using Esperanza Bucks and everyone took something home in their “Once an Esperanza Girl, Always an Esperanza Girl” tote. We also brought in a professional photographer to provide free headshots to support our alumni as they apply for internships, scholarships, and first jobs. Alumni received guidance from our Graduate Success Team on setting up and strengthening their LinkedIn profiles and building their professional networks. This year’s Alumni Connect was generously supported by Esperanza Board member Carlos N Torres through a Year Up United Alumni grant, reflecting our shared belief in the power of sustained investment in young people’s educational and professional pathways. Alumni Connect continues to grow as a space where Esperanza’s commitment to walking alongside our graduates beyond middle school stays tangible and real, and each year staff and faculty look forward to the event.
