Freshmen on Parade! (And Jamison 🤣)

Our freshmen and Jamison - who transferred to KU this year - all played in studio class! Playing in studio accomplishes so many things: creates performance-level nerves in a safe environment (you gotta practice feeling nerves! 🥴), provides an opportunity to share music for others, and gives the rest of the studio a chance to practice giving feedback.

In the KU Tuba/Euphonium Studio, we strive to give comments that share what we love about your performance and provide ideas for how to address the challenges we all have making music! And so, while playing can feel scary, we hopefully learn to be more comfortable sharing our music and work together on our journey toward being the best musicians we can be.

Some of the folks in the KU tuba and euphonium studio are in London with the kumarchingjayhawks for the game against Arizona State! One of the many perks of being in the marching band is the traveling! (Though, it’s not ALWAYS overseas 😂)

What an awesome performance by Dr. Benjamin Pierce along with Professor Ellen Sommers on piano! Dr. Pierce played pieces on both tuba and euphonium (as he does!)! 🤯

Dr. Pierce teaches at the University of Arkansas, which has Kansas in the name, so that’s okay in our book. 🤓📚
