One of the greatest gifts drama gives students isn't a standing ovation.

It's confidence.

Over the years, I've watched quiet students find their voices, reluctant learners discover their creativity, and classmates become supportive teammates. Those moments rarely happen overnight—they begin with simple creative dramatics activities that encourage imagination, collaboration, and a willingness to try.

That's why creative dramatics has always been an important part of my classroom.

Students aren't just learning theater skills. They're learning to communicate, solve problems together, listen, create, and believe in themselves. Those are lessons they'll carry long after the curtain closes.

I thought you just had to see Ernest doing his daily chores. 😸He is up and down at that window all day. The funny part is when he lays on me on this chair closest to the window. He looks at the birds from there. But…he’s too tired or lazy to go over and get them! He just looks at them and chirps! 😊 birds

Terrific!

In last year's reimagination of Oscar Wilde's "The Picture of Dorian Gray," actress Sarah Snook played all 26 roles. She won a Tony Award for her performance. The Library for the Performing Arts filmed the production at the Music Box Theatre in June 2025, and it's now accessible at the Theatre on Film and Tape Archive.
