KU Biodiesel Initiative (University of Kansas)

We provide biodiesel fuel, from used cooking oil, and biodiesel generators to campus. Soon we will also be providing soap!
The KU Biodiesel Initiative is a grassroots, student-run operation to produce biodiesel from used cooking oil generated on campus. It is our goal to meet the requirements of all KU's buses, landscaping and maintenance equipment, and power generators on campus with this renewable fuel. With the Alternative Energy Society student group, we work to promote knowledge of sustainability and alternative fuel sources such as biodiesel to the student body and community.

Congrats Leo!
We are excited to see Leo Budy has been named as a co-chair to help lead the Next Generation of Scientists for Biodiesel with the National Biodiesel Board.
Leo is a KU student and a member of the KU Biodiesel Initiative (University of Kansas) that is supported by the Commission and has a passion for biodiesel.
“When I got the first tour of the lab, I knew I had stumbled across something that I could really get excited about,” Leo says. “I volunteered in the lab over the course of the summer, and I got absolutely addicted. The more time I spent in the lab helping to clean, organize, and maintain the biodiesel production process, the more captivated I became.”

EXPO is around the corner. The weekend of February 19-21st!! Hope to see you there.
We have a big announcement to make ladies and gents! We are currently doing a study with KU on Wheels to see how a bus runs on our biodiesel. We have bus 308 that runs the 43 red route. Spread the word by taking pictures by the sign and tagging our page. Hope to see pictures flooding in soon :)
Discount Card Sales are back underway this semester. The price has been reduced to $5 but still includes all of the great discounts! If you haven't yet bought a card to show your support, now is a great time. Stop by one of our tabling events at The Market in the KS Union or shoot us an email, if you are interested!
We are very excited to announce our new partnership with the KU Greek Community. We have teamed up with the different "house moms" to create a sustainable way for the fraternities and sororities to recycle their used cooking oil. AXO was the first house to participate, and soon thereafter many of the additional houses also joined our cause. On our first oil pickup, we collected just shy of 100 gallons of oil to convert into biodiesel.
