LCC is a non-profit choral arts program based out of Lawrence, KS serving children ages 3-18.

Founded in 1991 by sisters Janeal Crabb Krehbiel and Marilyn Crabb Epp, the Lawrence Children’s Choir has grown from one 40-voice choir to an organization comprised of fix choirs serving singers from Northeast Kansas, including the communities of Lawrence, Perry, Emporia, Osage City, Topeka, Baldwin City and Eudora. Current choirs include Capo (ages 3-kindergarten); Cadenza (1st-3rd grade); Choristers (3rd-6th grade); Tour Choir (6th-12th grade); and the Crescendo Choir (Adults). Upon Janeal Krehbiel’s retirement in April, 2012, long-time assistant Carolyn Welch assumed the position of Artistic Director. Carolyn Welch retired after the 2020-2021 season, and Dr. Gabe Lewis-O'Connor, a Lawrence native and LCC alum, assumed the role of Artistic Director in the Summer of 2021.

Board Member Spotlight! Jennie McDow, Ed.D., is an educator, author, and lifelong advocate for children and learning. With a background spanning elementary education, literacy intervention, higher education, and educational leadership, Jennie has spent much of her career supporting children, families, and future educators. She is also the author of Homeschooling Without Losing Your Marbles and is currently pursuing graduate studies in clinical counseling.

Jennie has a special connection to the Lawrence Children’s Choir as a parent. Two of her children have participated in LCC programs over the past three years, giving her the opportunity to experience firsthand the confidence, friendships, musical growth, and sense of community that choir can foster in young people. She is grateful to be part of an organization that provides children in the Lawrence community with meaningful opportunities to grow through music. We appreciate all our board members and today we thank Jennie for her dedication to LCC and our community!

Board Member Kate says “I love LCC because it gives kids a place to find their voice – literally and figuratively. I’ve loved watching young people build confidence, friendships, and a love of music while being part of something bigger than themselves.I’m an independent insurance agent with CEK Insurance and enjoy the people side of my job – helping clients, building relationships, and being involved in the Lawrence community. Outside of work, I love soccer, sports, traveling, spending time with family and friends, and cheering on my kids. I was born in Kansas and have called Lawrence home for many years. I love being part of a community where people show up for one another.” We appreciate all our board members and today we thank Kate for her dedication to LCC and our community!

Susan Ralston devoted 37 years to music education, teaching elementary music from 1970 until her retirement in 2007. During her career, she taught at Schwegler, Hillcrest, Woodlawn, Grant, Kennedy, and Centennial elementary schools, as well as music education at the University of Kansas. Susan’s connection to the Lawrence Children’s Choir dates back to its very first year in 1991, when both of her daughters sang in the choir. She began assisting with LCC rehearsals and continued in that role for 10 years. She then served as a rehearsal assistant for Choristers for another 10 years and now serves on the LCC board. The family tradition continues today with two of her granddaughters singing in the Tour choir. We appreciate all our board members and today we thank Susan for her dedication to LCC!
