This fair is open to all students (first-year through Graduate/PhD) who are interested in careers in the science and health industries. Employers are eager to talk to you about their current opportunities and provide valuable advice on entering the workforce.

The Chemistry Department and the KU ChemClub would like to invite you to the 2026 Carnival of Chemistry! This year’s Carnival of Chemistry will be on Sunday, November 22nd 1:00-4:00 pm in Gray-Little Hall.

The Carnival of Chemistry is a free, family-friendly, fun afternoon of science experiments and demonstrations geared toward kids in kindergarten through middle school. In addition to favorite activities from past Carnivals, we will also have activities with a special focus on this year’s theme: “Chemistry Under Construction”.

Dr. Jason Applegate is looking for volunteers to lead demonstrations, assist with demonstrations, and provide general event support. If this sounds like something you would be interested in doing, please complete the form at the QR code in the attached Carnival of Chemistry Volunteer Form.

BIOL 441 Students ID plant species at Rockefeller Prairie, located at University of Kansas Field Station , which offers the opportunity to contrast plant growth between native and restored prairies. Students took measures of plant abundance and used the gathered data to quantify plant diversity between the restored and native plots.

The restored prairie was reseeded 50 years prior and shows the effect of soil erosion on the land when native plants are removed. Though there has been half a century of growth, the soil in the restored plot is harder on reseeded plants, allows for more runoff, and generally is harder to reestablish non-grass species. In contrast, Native Prairies have a very high plant diversity and maintain better protections against soil erosion.

On Tuesday, KU Biology hosted an Open House in Haworth Hall! Students were able to go on four different lab tours presented by. Dr. Kelly Matsunaga, Dr. Tony Fehr, Dr. Rob Unckless & Dr. Justin Blumensteil, as well as take part in mixer rooms where they were able to meet other students in their major! KU Biology provided pizza, bingo and free swag!

The Undergraduate Biology Program offers free monthly coffee hours with faculty members, called Coffee & Chromosomes. 🍵Our second Coffee & Chromosomes is Monday, October 5, 12-12:50 PM, in Gray-Little 1160. Stop by to learn about faculty research projects, learn about campus events, and get to know your professors and classmates!

Dr. Eileen Hotze will be joined by Alyssa Fenton, who took part in a REU last summer, and Sydney Henley & Liz Mays, who are members of the Biology Majors Advisory Committee (BMAC)! Conversation will focus on summer research opportunities and the student research experience!
