Child Care Access Means Parents In School at KU

Welcome back to CCAMPIS!! We are excited for another year of supporting our student-parents here at KU. Our Fall Parent Workshops have begun and we are thrilled to work with Marie Taylor again to provide meaningful workshop sessions!

Our Parent Workshop this past week focused on physical health and development. Out faciltator had participants and their children engage with various stations to note where their children fall within various developmental stages. CCAMPIS supports our participants in various ways, including parenting support that engages both the parent and child. In this way, CCAMPIS provides wrap-around services to ensure our participants graduate on track and on time!

We had such fun at our CCAMPIS Spring Break Pottery Painting Family Event at ! CCAMPIS understands the importance of building affinity and relationships to combat the isolation that many student-parents feel throughout their educational journeys, so we try to get our families together to share experiences, build friendships and establish support systems. Fun times!

Last night we continued exploring Developmental Domains by sharing our own children’s experiences within each domain, gallery walk-style! CCAMPIS supports our student-parents not only by providing childcare subsidies, but also by providing meaningful parenting workshops to support growing families.

Parent’s Night Out event for our participants because we know that many of our student-parents are often isolated due to parenting and academic demands. For this reason, we try to provide opportunities for our participants to get out and have some fun! At KU, we happen to be blessed with a wonderful professional theater that brings in national touring productions for patrons to enjoy. We love partnering with the Lied Center of Kansas - Performing Arts Center to provide these opportunities for our CCAMPIS families!

CCAMPIS is back with our Spring Workshop Series! We are excited to welcome back Marie Weigel Taylor from Positive Bright Start as our workshop facilitator, guiding us through childhood developmental domains. CCAMPIS values the community partnerships we have formed to support the growth of our student-parents!

Let’s talk about boundaries! Parenting is tough, especially when the parent is also a college student. Guilt can make us feel like we are not allowed to establish boundaries with our children, but boundaries are healthy and necessary for the wellbeing of the family.
